I'm not sold by this one thin study. (I'm all in favor of religious tolerance, though.) I'm sure there has to be more serious work out there: this is a pretty superficial look. Here's something from the federal Center for Disease Control: CDC: Gay Men’s HIV Rate 44 Times that of Other Men; Syphilis Rate 46 Times Higher I don't know what to make of these issues: clearly we haven't yet found a rational and reasonable basis for claiming homosexual and heterosexual activities are equivalents. I DO think homosexuality is a complex psychological matter, not a genetic one. The genetic thing seems disproven. So I'm apprehensive of blandly saying everything's okay. I know there's a fun bandwagon to jump on, and it's fun to say "okay" to stuff. But here I haven't yet seen substantial scientific results. So the scout policy seems prudent, to say the least, especially in a litigious era (it's grim humor to see the scouts now being taken to court for their early efforts to protect kids via a predator list).
. . . with respect to the notion that more men are deviants, this is usually true in matters of psychological concern. Men as a group vary more widely than women in many areas (more geniuses, more intellectually deficient; proportionately more criminal, etc.). There are more great men, and more heinous and defective men; women run truer to norm.
Got my order in at 12:09 and have recieved confirmation e-mail but everything says "backordered". Is this normal?
I'm in, a great present for my Eagle Scout son-in-law. Just got my conf#, web site was smooth and fast.
I don't see how this coin will sell any differently than the Disabled Veterans coin which has really seen sales cut back as of late. I don't think that it will sell out.
It was very quick, in and out in less than 5 minutes. If I were a good typist, under 4 minutes for sure.
Got onto the website at 12:40 EDT while simultaneously continuing to call by phone. Website very slow and finally got to checkout screen 2 at 12:45 at the same time the phone was answered, 5 minutes on hold and three minutes to place order to a very nice and helpful order taker. Confirmation number was e-mailed to me within one minute of finishing phone call! Never did get to the checkout screen 3 as I had completed my phone order by then. Total score: 1 proof (for younger Eagle Scout son who collects proofs) 1 unc (for older Eagle scout son who doesn't collect)
I think you are right Salty. Seems like this one and the Disabled vets could be just about the same in popularity.
Order placed at 1:49 pm ET and it took about three minutes. Confirmed, one of each finish. Having earned the merit badge more than 35 years ago, it is a nice addition.
