It's been quite some time since I posted, so, hello everyone. While I was shut in during the pandemic, I bought a few coins on an on-line auction. One of them is a 1958 P that looks to have a die crack in the hair. Today my youtube feed had a post that die cracks are sort of a hot thing right now so I thought I would check to see if I am correct in what I have and what the approximate value should be and maybe recoup my original investment (about $15). Thanks for any information any one is willing and able to provide.
I have no idea about value of them. I have been saving them since the 50's just for fun and have a considerable number of them. If they have a significant value, I will consider selling mine.
Cracks in the head area is a fairly common error on 1950's era cents. Common or minor errors = lower premiums.
Die cracks (and die chips) do not add to the intrinsic value of a coin as they are indicators of die deterioration, but they do aid in die identification (die marriage), serving as die markers. Your coin is very nice, maybe MS65 and clean fields…NGC lists at $14.00. If you can talk it up one more notch to a MS66, then the listing jumps to $42.00. I’m not sold on the idea of getting this one slabbed, borderline. Bottom line…a die crack, die chip or cud needs to be significant to add juice to any premium…imo…Spark
You are welcome sir but please don’t be a stranger. You’ve been around a long time and we hardly know you.
