Sounds like your Mother-in-Law wanted to make sure you stayed home! :D

Btw, I see you collect watches. I don't, per se, but I did pick up one and I was wondering if you had an opinion about it.

It's called a "CoinWatch". I see that the company is still active in Australia (I think). In the late 90's, CoinWatch had an arrangement with the US Mint where they got proof $25 AGE coins (1/2 ounce) directly from the Mint and made watches out of them. The boxes and watch carry the US Mint insignia.

As I recall, the new Mint Director at the time declared that the Mint was "...not in the jewelry business" and severed ties with CoinWatch. A few years ago, I bought a "New in Box" AGE CoinWatch for $400 and stored it away. Do you think it has any value over bullion since it was issued in accordance with the US Mint?

    I collect

Tools, key chains (since I was a kid, I have hundreds!) airplane parts (interior lighting panels, I work on them so they are free when broken for the slightest reason, some are very cool), and bayonets, and of course guns. You can't have to many!

I got lots of used Vietnam era bayonnets from a MD military auction...15 bayonnets per lot for $5-$15 per lot. I bought 150 of them and sold them off for $10 each. I have no idea what the going rate should be...I just flipped them. They sold pretty fast.

Yak I have always beleived what was on mans junk is anothers treasure! I'm sure its gone up in value ....but again no matter what you own it's only worth what another person will pay you for it. I own a 95 M Miata to me it's priceless. with over a 100 K on itnow. I know I still can get 6 k for it...its in great shape a garage queen! The RCM had some great looking coin watches too. I almost purchased one. As coin jewerly goes I find that only a select few will wear it. Maybe to a club meeting or show. But who knows as things do come in and out of fashion. In the 80's it was rolex watches I never liked them, and I had two but they never kept good time. My Tags loose >1 of a sec a month! I have 4 all the same style...I also have swiss army watches 5 I think. they wear well also. I would sell it ....if I were you... if your not wearing it...get your money out of it and maybe you'll find a person who will wear it maybe just collect it. I have allso found in my 55 years your wants always exceed your needs. You collect so much stuff in life. and at the end what do you do with it? Ya surely can't take it with you ....enjoy what you have now... and if you don't want or need it any longer get rid of it and move on. as it don't seem like you would wear it yourself. But yes I'm sure you could break even or even make a few $$$ on it. IMHO

I really left out one item I collect in my orginal post....And that is Freinds! I have been blessed to have had met so many wonderful people in my years. A quite a few bad ones too! I have lost several going back as far as my childhood days to present date. Most of us "including myself " in this thread were thinking inside of the box. And it just dawned on me that we all were thinking of material things. I Just like to thank all my friends who put up with me....who share the good times with the bad. It does not matter how much stuff you have ...unless you have someone to share it with! Just wanted to share my thoughts on thinking outside of the box! Paddy

Not really a collection, but I'm into breeding fancy guppies. At one point, I had over ten tanks of guppies. I also had a koi pond. Now that my resident grandson is nearing two years old, I had to remove the pond (for safety reasons), and reduce my guppy hobby down to one untippable 60 gal hex tank.

When it comes to collecting, I have the worst timing known, let me explain...
When I was a child of the 60's, I collected baseball, football, basketball cards, and so did all my friends. This was a time, when if you could get a poster of your favorite player was HUGE to hang in your room.
Many kids back in that day had favorite players who were NOT the stars so to speak. You tended to like who played for your favorite team. This was a time, when players would PLAY their WHOLE carerr with the SAME team. The player would never dream of switching teams..

Oh, make no mistake, we knew who the best players were, even back then. I was like 10-12 years old. the time was 1965...
I remember Pete Rose rookie, Hank Aaron rookie, Nolan ryan rookie, etc....Yes, we knew Mickey Mantle was huge to get.. We ALL wanted these cards. We also had bikes, and when you hear that we put cards in to our spokes, YES.!! that is true.!! But trust me, it was of the lamest, god awfulest players in the league. Never was it of a great player..

Here is what really happened to those collections. We all tried to get the best players of the time...Rose,Mantle,mays,maris,ruth,..etc...

We ALL put them in shoe boxes, NO exceptions.!! we had nothing else.!! ALL my friends had them...!!
I remember trading cards like crazy, even Hank Aaron rookie cards for other cards, pete rose for other cards. if you had a duplicate of a great card, YOU traded it for other cards you wanted, usually for YOUR team that you wanted filled...even no-namers, you wanted your COMPLETE team above ALL else..!! We didn't Know the value of any of these cards at the time, there were NO price guides.
We were very happy, I remember getting the Lew Alcinder card in a pack. WE KNEW he was going to be big, I kept that card. And may I say, NONE and I repeat NONE of my friends would buy more than 2-3 packs at a time.
WHY? because when we would go to the store, we were conservative to a fault, these packs were .25 a piece (if i remember correctly)...And first, we didn't want our parents to think we were crazy....Or maybe it was we knew they wouldn't by more than a pack or 2. but that is the way it was..

Here is what happended to our great collections..We had them in shoeboxes....then we turned 16...and our parents wanted to clear out space, did a spring cleaning, whatever...and when mom asked us what to do with them..and ALL of us said, "Throw them out"....because we associatied them to being 12 and young...it was almost being embarresed to still having them. Kinda like having a G.I. Joe doll in your closet...Please get rid of it.

My mom was smart enough, to ask my younger cousin if he wanted them, he did, she sent them all.

Fast forward 30 years, he know owns 2 nolan rookie cards, 5 pete rose rookie cards, willie mays rookie, hank aaron 4 rookie cards, and many others...
I asked for them back, but sorry, I will not be getting them....

    ok, that's my story...

Don was a 50/50 shot at the time.......So what did most of our Mothers do? they did what we told them, THROW THEM OUT. we didn't want to be connected with collecting cards......So out they went.
    Same with any G.I. Joes....

That is the truth with 90% of us....thats why there rare......

I had a friend who collected the entire Addam's Family set back then and glued them to a big piece of cardboard.

We moved to Cincinnati in 1962. My Dad was a plant manager for Meade Container Corp. and he had field box seats at Crosley Field...just over the third base dugout. He used to take my Brother and I to a lot of the games when no one was using the tickets.

Back then, Pete Rose was the most popular player. He grew up in Cincinnati and every kid wanted to be like him. I have no idea how many Pete Rose cards I destroyed on my bicycle spokes...but there were a LOT!
I know I had at least 4-5 of his rookie cards...all gone now.

    I collect

I have Baseball cards as old as '53 Bowmans to Modern. I prefer errors but have a nice collection of autographed cards including Percy Harvin's Bowman Crome autographed rookie card. I got lucky with a 20 dollar box.

I've alot of vintage football too including Reggie White's Rookie in mint condition. Mostly 84's and 86's.

I have a vintage camera collection ( 4 ) One is a Kodak Vest Pocket Camera era 1917 and still has a roll of exposed film in it. I'd love to get them developed to see what might be on them but was told it may be too old for development.

I have one miniature water pitcher stamped " occupied Japan"

    A collection of '45 records from the 40's 50's and 60's

    Yesterday I found a Mexican 50 Centavo(I'm in Pa) when out for a walk.:eek:dd:

Other than coins, I acquire (rather than "collect") Spyderco knives, LED flashlights, Civil War era replica pistols, antique Winchester 1873 rifles, and Winchester books/memorabelia.

I must not have a "collector" mentality because I don't feel a need to collect "sets" of things I'm interested in. I don't "collect" every date, every variation, every model, every color, or every anything. It keeps me sane.
