Hmmm... a Great SouthernFried... I wonder... PhotoShop'd? And if it's "PROOF", why isn't it slabbed?? After all, only 16K were minted!! http://cgi.ebay.com/1880-Shield-Nickel-PROOF-GEM-PF-BLAST-WHITE_W0QQitemZ270545522000QQcmdZViewItemQQptZCoins_US_Individual?hash=item3efdc50d50
I have this seller and another on who is similar on my favorites. I 'm always looking in fact I just was surfing before I jumped back on here. My question if you are a legit dealer with problem free coins why would you sell them raw? Why not send them to a TPG ...and get a better price for them?
From reports here and other places, their M.O. seems to be to auction items that have problems or are "less than they appear" over and over until they 'stick.' A no-questions-asked return policy keeps those pesky complaints to a minimum. Looking at the photos referenced in the OP, it is impossible to draw any conclusions about that coins condition, other than to say it has not been hit with a hammer. This is typical of GSC's photo-ops.
Yeah, I concur with that statement, ksparrow. In my opinion, pictures can always be made to look as smooth as ex-lax. And, in my opinion, a bright light can be used to do the trick.
Well they do have coins that look good in pictures. When I get a coin of this value I do like them to be graded now. It cost nothing more to buy them that way and you already know it's real and that someone thinks it's a certain grade. Dont' know why they would sell so many raw like that...makes you wonder?
I seem to recall... Doesn't ebay have a policy where a Seller cannot assert / advertise a coin grade unless it has been certified as such?
As far as the eBay rules, you can say just about anything- including a numeric grade- in the description of the item.
Never bought from them just because of the pictures look juiced to me. Plus most of the auctions go at ridiculous prices for the pictures. I think there was another thread on here about them in the last couple of days.
I've seen their stuff before and considered bidding on it, but always put it off for the odd reason that all their photos have the exact same look IMO. They are all smooth and wildly contrasted and none of their stuff is ever in slabs, and I mean never. And stuff that is that "rare" and looks that good ought to be slabbed.
I could be wrong... but my understanding of E-Bay policy is "no numeric grade in the short description unless it is slabbed by a major TPG." One may use a verbal grade description (i.e. VF).
Correct. I was smart enough not to use an eBay "non-blessed" TPG (SEGS as I recall) and it's grade in the title of a listing. But I did use the grade in the description. And the picture did show the slab. It got yanked. When I relisted all I did was remove the grade from the description and all went well.
