1982 D nickel

Is this a repunched mint mark and also is this normal on some nickels to have FIVF instead of FIVE?

There are no known RPM for 1982D Nickels on Variety Vista. The E of FIVE is a slightly grease/debris filled part of the die.

 

Worth keeping?

That nickel probably spent time in a washer/dryer and it accelerated the damage to the coin. But just a nickel. FYI: if you can find 1982/1983 P and D nickels in a high grade (AU/BU), they are worth saving.

 

I think that by 1982 the mint marks were stamped into the hubs and transferred into the working dies, precluding the use of a hand punch. If I'm wrong, someone will cite me......

 

@green18 I think that 1990 was the last year the MM was handpunched into the master die, The 1 cent being the last denomination.

But come on, Frank, that was 40 years ago. I'll bet there's no more than 380 Million around today, maybe less!

 

excellent point, just think it'll only take 5000 trees to produce the 2X2 holders to save those small numbers of remaining pieces.
