I wanted to expand my knowledge and get Coin World monthly Magazine. My question (as silly as it sounds) Is there an advantage/disadvantage of get one over another? I like the fact that if I get 52 issues that I dont need to take a computer to the throne to read or if I was to go somewhere that it's that much less for me to carry. On the flip side of things, Digital version is half the price. I'm a little undecided as to which one to get...:desk: encil: 12 Print/52 Digital only $19.99 - Coin World Special Edition 52 issues only $49.97 - PRINT PLUS DIGITAL VERSION Mucho Gracios! -Shrek
Coin World would be worth 3 times what it costs if need be. I don't like reading online as much as having an oppertunity to sit down out side on a sunny day and really let the magazine relax me and sink in. All 52 issues are required to really hone in on this IMO. Each week you not only are brought up to date but have the chance to unwind and have a good ole fashion read. If learning and keeping up to date on this market and getting familar with coins across the board are your goals it's not a question of if, it's a queation of "must have".
It all depends on what you need to reach your numismztic goals. Are you a coin collector? Do you want to complete a set of coins? Does condition (VG, F, VF, XF, AU, Unc, BU, or MS) mean anything to you. Some time, in the future, do you want to sell your collection/s for a profit? Do you collect other than USA coins? Do you already have the Official Red Book (A Guide Book of United States Coins)? Will you join a local Coin Club? Are you now searching the web for articles on Coin Collecting? Have you been visiting local or nearby coin shops? Are you on the mailing list of 10 or more coin dealers? Do you think one coin publication will fill your needs or answer the questions you have or sate your curiosity? Are you scanning coin dealers' web sites? Do you want to collect any certain coin category (mint sets, proofs, ancients, medieval, heroes, monarchs, your birthyear, famous people, land marks, brass, bronze, copper, gold, nickel, copper-nickel, paladium, platinum, silver, circulation coins, commemoratives, etc)? A lot depends on what, why and how you collect as to which publication to subscribe to and how much time you can devote (valuable word) to attain your coin collecting goals. How will you archive items of interest online? Same rings true about the coin books in your coin library. Clinker
I have a subscription for the digital version of Coin World. It is a great resource. You can always print it out if you want a hardcopy. TC
This how my CW sub works,I can read it online and get the mag to.all I did to get it that way was log on there site and add your subscription number after you set up your account.but I do renew for 2yr each time I have to.I not sure if that helps.
I also love my digital edition. I must admit that i was hesitant at first, but it reads just like the print edition (laptop on the throne excluded) and it's delivery is absolutely the timeliest ever! I can look up the new issue every Monday. Period, no late or damaged copies, and best yet, nobody (not even my mail carrier) knows that I collect coins now!
I will give you a different excuse. The digital version kills fewer trees. Not saying that is THE answer, but if you are truly 50/50, maybe that is the straw.
UNfortunately Dick, that doesnt help because I would print it up anyhow. It would probably cost me more to print it up then to actually have it sent to me. Plus, at my job I have seen to much (or is many the proper word) paper wasted. However I do appreciate all responses. Thanks guys.
If you are going to print it out anyway, they can probably do it better and cheaper than you can. In than case, How is your mail? I get the printed copy about 10-14 days (and sometime more) after I get the digital version. I plan to stop the printed version when this subscription runs out.
I live less than 1/2 mile from the post office. I know most of them and they are (were, maybe) some of the best, but they cannot deliver what they do not have.
Going "Green" is a great thing but... we relie way too much on our computers for everything. A good example is paying credit cards online and eliminating your paper billing. The credit card companies would have you believe they are doing their part to go green but actually are just finding another way to cut their costs. I pay my bills online but still get paper statements each month just in case my computer crashes or in my case last week, my monitor fried. Many paper mags are going to online prints as they can no longer afford the paper, people or postage. Sad but true, soon we will have no choice inthis matter. I would much rather have my Numismatic News in hand than online so I can refer to any time I want. It has been way too time consuming to post a free ad since they did away with it in the paper copy and went to an online ad system. It was such a great way to meet new people, trade, etc. They saved a lot of money but a lot of us lost contact with the real world this way. It was so much fun browsing thru all the ads before.
I enjoy the digital version at times, but as much as I'd hate to, if the publications went all digital they'd have at least one less subscriber. The great thing about having the print for me is I do most of my reading at work, where access to computers doesn't exist, at least without chancing a 500K federal fine and prison time. So hope it never comes to that. Guy~
I must be one of the few that doesn't like the digital edition. It's actually pretty good but it takes five minutes to download each page and it won't let me move on to the next page until the one currently downloading finishes. I rarely get more than 10 pages into an issue before I quit in frustration.
It is probably your computer and not the Coin World site. I just purchased a new home computer and my digital edition downloads faster than I would physically be able to turn a page. TC
Oh I know it's my internet connection. (and at least partially the computer.) I don't have a nice Broadband cable modem connection My wireless internet connection is much faster than my dialup connection but still only about 24 Mbps. On dialup forget it, it would take half an hour per page. Broadband is available but isn't an option because the cost would be over $100 per month.
Agreed.....I like the paper to sit and relax and read it no matter where I choose...However... and there is always a but....and I agree with Mikenoodle on the fact your mail man or lady knows your business. not to mention that if you recycle as most everyone does ....your data is out there for others to see. My wife and I shredd everything.....not my coin worlds but I do my address off the issue.as well as all catalogs I receive and I get alot because my wife and I are on line and catalog shoppers! Now think about this and understand that indenity theft is off the hook! when you receive a catalog or any other mail with your data on it you should shredd it. here's an example you get your favorite catalog. on it is a catalog code and a customer #....now all you need do is call the company and place an order they ask what is your cat code you say 12345 and your customer # 6789 then they ask your address....now they say it back to you and ask is this purchase going to be shipped to your address or a business address or is it a gift. Most companies keep a record of your credit card numbers br it Amex, MC, Discover ,Visa.... etc you place your order and the operator ask what card would you like this billed to? Now the theif replies MC well that a 1 in 4 chance and if the operator does not ask you to give your card number because it's on file you just been had. the theif tells the operator to ship the package as a gift or to a business! Most do ask for a security code on the back of your card....however the more you give these guys the better chance they have to rip you off . I have a neighbor who works for the state dept. he and his wife were station in Cuba for 3 years . His wife's indenity got stolen while they were in cuba ...now what you may not know is there is no credit cards used in cuba...it's all cash and barter......their only saving grace was that the state dept. could verify that they were in cuba at the time of the charges......That helped them big time as if not they would of had the time of their lives trying to prove that the charges were legit. I myself for the safety of my wife and family may go paper less next time when I renew my Coin World......I don't want to be held at gun point or even worst for the sake of reading a news paper. Times are hard and people are crazy why give them fuel for the fire. as least on line you can print it out and then shredd the print out when your done using it. Just my view point... but again there is nothing like printers ink on your fingers and a relaxing chair to kick back and enjoying a good read.
Paddy, I agree with what you are saying. I ordered hard copies because I like not having to carry my laptop/desktop everywhere I go. Also, I SAVE all my magazines because I know eventually I will have to refer back to older magazines for information that I may need. Speaking along the lines of identity thieft, I went for a walk with my wife last night and we were talking about when to get our son a SSN card. She wanted to wait until the last possible minute however I informed her that wasn't possible. What's so relevant of this to identify thieft? Well, a LOT of scam artists are using your children's SSN in order to get Credit Cards so they can ruin your credit. So if you have child(ren) this is something you may want to consider doing a credit report if you havent done so already. As a matter of fact I recieved an email from this person with 20-30 other emails attached stating in order to complete my Window's 7 upgrade, I will need to provide them 11.25 for Shipping and Handling. I responded to all (because I wanted to make everyone AWARE of the security/privacy breach that this person made) and wouldnt you believe there were a couple of people yelling at me? Really? Com'on folks I was trying to look out for you and this is what I get. I chuckled and was a little ****ed b/c this is the thanks I get. Gotta love society.
