Just wanted to modify this a little and change my color...:)

Folks please list the denoms you intend to put together as well.
Great goals Duke and Krispy....I wish you both luck. Now comes the point where you spend nights developing bid tactics for the Auctions and start gathering data in which to do so. What grades may I ask? That guideline alone will play a dsignificant role in your expenditures.

for the time being i have to stick with hundreds and below. $500 and $1000 notes are to rich for my blood. especially in AU or better condition

Urban my friend... I have some news for you..many of the $100's are not so cheap either..the 1928 Series, 1934 Series 1950 Series are the worst..... the $50's can be quite expensive too especially the stars.

we all have our work cut out for us and the cost of such a collection can be huge....I am at the point where I am considering selling the Obsoletes and Fractionals to continue the other collections...I saw my first Gem Series 1928 $100 New York note at Scott Linquist's table in Baltimore..this was the top pop note and he had a price tag of 4K on that note and it was not even a star.
Some of these I never really expect to locate in all honesty.

Well, I'm definitely in for St Louis! Primary reason, I'm a native of that city. Although, I adopted NYC as my home town a long time ago, so when I see nice NY notes out there, being a resident of this city, I will have to pick them up too! ;)
    I NY.

As for the denominations, I will probably focus on small size $1 - $50 notes at the outset. I can't say much for which grades I can afford since I don't know so much about the notes from this district. Will just shoot for the highest I can get and err at/above AU55 range (fingers crossed that's not too ambitious). I'll have to start putting together a check list of notes and doing the research as to what I'll be looking for since I don't really have many St. Louis notes at this time. Off the top of my head I do have two circulated FRNs: $10 1934 C & $10 1950 C. I also have numerous (raw crisp) $2 series 1976 notes.

For you guys already working on your districts do you consider Nationals and FRNs for your district collection or is that just be a completist in your collecting? I have seen some large size Nationals for St Louis in the past but was always bowled over by the bids. Just curious what all I might need to consider.

This looks like fun. I know little or nothing about notes and my budget is extremely tight. So I'm going to start my collection with Atlanta because we used to live there and my family enjoyed it very much. Atlanta - I'm going with notes from circulation so that's pretty limiting (I think). I guess I should get one example of each denomination from each series in a regular and star.

Does this make any sense? I have much to learn about notes (and other things too).

ps - I don't think I should be on the list as I don't want to stop a serious note collector from choosing Atlanta.

    Nice Green Rickey :D
I just picked colors quickly and thought we all might want green being a paper post lol

Krispy I will be doing the FRN's and Nationals.
I'm expecting to have the FRN's done first probably.

    As for grades probably in:

    FRN's all CU's
    FRBN's VF's
    Nationals Good and up

On a side note NY seems like a huge undertaking as there are so many more of them then most...

Duke: for me it will be $1-$20 denominations unless I find $50s and $100s in AU conditions for an absolute bargain. The same will (for now) apply to the large size red/blue seal FRNs. I will first focus on $1-$20 small sized FRNs as I get started.

Yep our plans seem very similar as we all have budgets. Mine is just less then others right now.
Only real difference is I want to do Nationals too.
I'm afraid to count how many notes in this set there are to get but I'm in no hurry I guess. Although getting the small FRN's before prices go up on those would be nice :D
So Krispy I'll just be down I-70 if you need anything.

    LOL! Thanks Duke.

So from what I can see I currently have this as a starting point for St Louis district notes (none tpg graded):

    19 x $2 Series 1976 (all HA block)
    1 x $5 Series 1963 A (HA block)
    1 x $10 Series 1934 C (HA block)
    1 x $10 Series 1950 C (HB block)
    2 x $10 Series 1969 (each HA block)

...and a mighty long road ahead in just $1 - $20 FRNs

I also went through my currency RedBook and book marked all the FRN pages.
Maybe this weekend I'll set up an Excel checklist for myself...
