Here is two auctions I won for $5.00 with shipping included. First we have the German Empire 20 Pfennig 1892-D (with a low mintage of only 703k), A Germany Weimar Republic 50 ReichsPfennig 1927-A & 1928-A, and last buy not least Barbados 10 Dollars (1982) with a low mintage of only 600 Total.
Todays Top 4 Picks!!! Today I spent $3.00 for 33 World Coins and my favorite 4 for this lot are Great Britain 1 Penny 1902 (Low Sea Level), Newfoundland 1 Cent 1904-H (First Mint Year and a low Mintage of 100k), German Federal Republic 2 Mark 1951-D (Key Date, First & Only Year Minted!), and last but not least Canada 5 Cents 1934 (Key Date, Low Mintage of 3,827,304). All in all with the 29 other coins I think I did out of this world for only $3.00, so many pieces of history saved and stashed away in my horde:hail::hail::hail:
Sure I'll post it. Found it on Saturday from a bucket of coins i got from a lady. It's a LMC 1968 D DDR.
I've never cherrypicked any coins. I've gotten a couple coins that were other than as advertised. But I only found out later when I re-examined them. I didn't know at the time of purchase that they were better than labeled, and that's the essence of cherrypicking, spotting something that the seller missed.
latest find: In March: 1943/2 Jeff nickel, in VG. Cost about 50 cents. Same show: 1901 O/horizontal O Barber Dime. G-4 Barber dime 1893 S/S RPM, G-4+ February: Mercs in an AU batch: 1935 D, unc for $4, 1936 P AU, nice die crack, 1940 S obv die crack. At $4 each (plus others.) in January: 1864 L Indian cent, purchased as a no-L. It was also a Snow-1A repunched date. G-4 as I remember.
I cherry picked an R.5 large cent, discussed on this thread : http://www.cointalk.com/t97817/ I also cherry picked an R.5 half dime a while back. The die variety was LM-2, and I seem to recall the date was 1833 (a little fuzzy on that though). I found what Breen calls an "extremely rare die state" on an 1804 half cent (C-6, die state II). That's pretty esoteric "specialist only" stuff; I really want to get that coin into the hands of someone who appreciates it.
I would disagree completely! In my first case I grabbed up two auctions for an awesome price and in my second case I as any customer is allowed to at my local shop went through the world coin bin for 10 cents each or 11 for a buck. In neither case do I consider my gain at the expense of a sellers lack of observance. Even in the second case, by local dealer does not care about world coinage, he buys them for a few pennies each throws them in a can and sells them 1, 11, or the whole bin to whomever wants. His choice not to care is my gain, and the auction seller, not selling to a larger auction site with more buyers is my gain, neither do I feel bad about.
Today's catch Pulled this one from some bank rolls this afternoon. It has a few nicks but the surface is smooth and it's SHINEY. Had to take another picture once it was in a flip to show the surface. Now, if you have 100 of these, how much do you think they are worth?
I was at a coin show last weekend and found two cherries at the same table. For me, it was one of the best kills of a lifetime. The first coin was a 2000P Sac "wounded eagle" variety. Bought for $3. Second coin was a 1959 Type II Franklin. The nice thing about both these varieties is that you can see them with the naked eye. The pics of the sac below are not of the actual coin, but the one I bought on Teletrade a month ago and trust me...it was a heck of a lot more than $3! Attached are other pics of the Franklin.
What did the Ben 50 cent cost ya?.. I have a '54 in about the same condition but I don't pay much attention to anything but pennies so I don't know if I got a good deal or not from the neighbor for 10 bucks.
