Thank you~ The Licinius is going to a young collector I know (The son of one of my Bank tellers) who loves old coins of any type. He was thrilled that he got an 1880's morgan. Can't wait to see what he thinks of a coin from 324 AD! I appreciate you all giving these a look and sharing the Information.
@Beardigger Your coin on the left, seems to be Byzantine, but I'm not 100% certain. It seems to be a bronze tetarteron, or bronze half tetarteron, but I'm not certain of that. I'm not a tetarteron expert. Here's my best guess. The 1st photo seems to be the obverse side, and seems to be upside down. On the obverse, seems to be a portrait of the upper half of Jesus, or Mary, or one of the saints, perhaps Saint Demetrius. The 2nd photo seems to be the reverse side, and seems to be a portrait of the upper half of a Byzantine Emperor. He seems to be wearing a typical Byzantine crown with pendilia hanging on each side of the crown. He seems to be holding a globus cruciger in his left hand. He seems to be holding a labarum in his right hand. Your coin somewhat resembles my John II The Good half tetarteron, but your coin could be Manuel I, or some other Byzantine Emperor. Here are the seller photos, of my John II The Good half tetarteron. John II The Good : AE Half Tetarteron. 1118 AD To 1143 AD. Thessalonica Mint. Sear 1955. 17 mm. 1.75 grams. Obverse Saint Demetrius Bust Facing Front With Halo Holding Sword In Right Hand Holding Shield In Left Hand. Reverse Emperor Bust Facing Front Wearing Crown And Loros Holding Labarum In Right Hand Holding Globus Cruciger In Left Hand.
