Just got an exciting call from my bank

My teller called me to tell me somebody just dropped of $500 worth of rolled coins. Said his father (deceased) was a coin collector. He kept the books but just turned in the rolls without checking them. Going down to get them on my lunch hour. Keep your fingers crossed!

Bought 20 rolls. Not the treasure trove I was hoping for, but not a bust either. The 2 best finds we’re a bicentennial proof quarter (40% silver?) A Samoa Bat W.
Also found a S war in pacific quarter. 2 Maya Angelou. 1 Sally Ride. And 2 virgin island 2009. The rolls did have a lot of nice states quarters and ATB quarters. Mostly D mint mark. Would like to keep a few. But really have no room. Now I must decide if I want to go back for the other $300 worth

 

The bicentennial quarter if silver should weigh 5.75 grams,that W looks really nice,not bad of a haul,if i were you go back.

 

There's no reason whatsoever not to go back for the remainder of the rolls. At the bare minimum you search, find nothing, reroll them and return them. Cost=zero.

 

The 1976 S is just a proof not silver. The W is in good condition for sure. I will go back tomorrow with my $198 and add enough to get the rest. It was such a varied assortment it was fun to search. And I'm a sucker for S mint marks of any kind. Lots of AU/MS state quarters and ATB'S.

The Bat W is my favorite design, and it was cool finding one in such nice condition.

 

Figured the 76 wasn't silver,i don't recall someone finding one in circulation,yes i agree the bat is a really cool design.Did you also check for doubled dies e.t.c?was it just all quarters or.....

 

Yep. It was all just quarters. I did ask if he brought in any other denominations, but the teller said just quarters. I did check for doubled Dies and varieties. Nada that I could see.

 

All quarters,not surprised that sure does make a lot more cents!!

Come on Sally McGootch, we all search BWR's with nothing but a wish and a prayer. $500 of CWR's with a tellers endorsement of a collector relinquishing them is not time wasted. It's a calculated endeavor.

 

Not sure if the bank would allow this, but you could give the bank your number to pass on to the customer who dropped the coins off. Who knows, maybe he's interested in selling the collection?
