I agree to bad about the counterstamps and nice greaser on the reverse, you still found a 113 year old coin.

The flattening on reverse is from the counter stamp on obverse. Nicest 1909 I've found. Usually they're all worn out.

I like the counter stamps myself. They add character. Harpo Marx might have put his initials in the coin. Nice find.

The reverse counter stamp looks like an ultra rare double counter stamp. Gotta be a huge premium...

Wonder if that was stamped shortly after the coin was minted? "Brand new series, so I'll mark it with my initials as my lucky coin."

Nice find. I think the markings add some value as it is unique, and they look like they could be from the same time period as the coin.
It would fit in my Altered Abe collection...

Just can't understand why anyone would do that to a beautiful coin!

That’s a great find! Have you checked into the counter stamp?

I've looked a little, but nothing. @BRandM: can you give opinion?

I'd guess it's either a love token ("H loves M") or just someone's initials. Not a pocket piece though...not enough wear or "pocket damage." Pocket pieces often are smoother and have a glossy appearance to them.

By the style and overall condition of the stamps they've probably been on the coin for most of its life, 1stSgt. Back then it was just spending money and nothing special to most people.
