I never bought one before because the premiums are always so high..

But I saw a proof one in my LCS recently and it looked beautiful so I decided to get an example this year despite the premium just because it looks fantastic in proof.

Anyone else grab one? I think mintage was 24,000?

No, I do not collect gold coins, especially when the premium is nearly 2x.

I didn’t buy one, but those coins, especially with the new reverse, are quite the lookers!

Looks nice but $130.50 over spot?

I didn't buy this offering. At the ANA this August I bought 10 different
dates of the 1/10th AGE. Spot 1750 plus 50. $1800 all in. Cash deal!!

    Just wanted one :).

From what I have seen they tend to hold the premium if slabbed and actually can be profitable if they get the PF70.

As for the premium..this is one of those coins where I know I’m overpaying for it but I just really like the coin ya know?

Kind of like how some people buy those silver rounds shaped like bullets even though the premium way above a bar or generic round.

Sometimes if you want something you’re willing to pay that high premium.

Proofs?? In my experience the non-proofs tend not to have that premium due to the infinite mintage.

    Proofs aren’t for stacking ;)

Definitely recommend normal AGEs or bars if you’re looking for low premium.

    Doesn’t make it bad though!

I mean an 1893 S Morgan Dollar sells for over 100x melt! o_O

@Gam3rBlake Just regular BU pieces. I was quoted $40-$50/coin
premium by other dealers for similar transaction. The smaller the coin
the larger the premium. I was happy.

Or, as I prefer to look at it, $1305/oz over spot.

But if it’s not bullion is comparing it to spot really fair? o_O

The problem is, when you're buying, it's numismatic. When you're selling it's bullion. That's the whole pitch by the seller vs buyer (both being the same dealer depending on which side of the sale you're each on).

I think it's fuzzy, but like @masterswimmer said, the premium seems kind of one-sided. Personally, I've stopped buying most proofs unless I can get them near spot. (I'll make some exceptions; I bought the Apollo stuff directly from the Mint, even knowing I'd probably never profit from it, because I wanted it and wasn't sure how much it would go up in the aftermarket.)

It looks nice but I’m more frugal with my money. A 1/10th ounce of gold at $315.00 per ounce is like paying $3150 per ounce. I just won’t do it.

I spent $326.00 on a CSA Note today. It’s valued at just over $400.00. It’s graded a 64 with EPQ. Every CSA Note I’ve bought has done nothing but go up in value. I’ll spend the money but not on overpriced gold.

Oooh my coin came today! It’s pretty! :)
