The correct term is "Doubled Die" as in the Die - during it's manufacturing process - was doubled. There are many different types of doubled dies. https://www.error-ref.com/doubled-dies/
Is it really necessary to be so rude to somebody whos attemping to learn? I believe theres enough going on in the world to complain about why choose to shoot down somebody who's asking questions?
You don't understand. We get a lot of this edited. Nothing personal. Just saying we get a lot of this edited.
I understand being the internet you probably see this a lot, I apologize for that. But my daddy always a question is never stupid, but having one and not asking is. This stuff is a lot to take in all together every individual aspect shooting somebody down when they first start doesnt make anybody feel accomplished.
Hi and welcome to CT. The best advice I was given when first starting in this hobby was; Reading and researching is more important than having someone give you the answer. Study the minting process and how dies are made. Look at images of Errors and varieties regularly. Every coin that looks a bit different is not always an error, there are countless ways a coin can be damaged or altered after it has been struck, as opposed to the relatively few ways it can happen at the mint. Here are some respected sites to further your education and which will help you to eliminate a great deal of coins that confuse you. Read all sections of each site, over and over if necessary as knowledge will undoubtedly help you going forwards. The best responses will come when it is shown you have tried to research the coin/condition/anomaly beforehand. Best of luck https://www.error-ref.com/ http://varietyvista.com/ https://doubleddie.com/ http://cuds-on-coins.com/ http://www.lincolncentresource.com/ https://www.usmint.gov/news/inside-the-mint/how-coins-are-made-coin-production-terminology
No one is being rude here. Your question was not stupid - just a common one. A member wishing to educate you, corrected the word you used and told you where to look for more info to educate yourself.
I’ve been burning through YouTube I’m a visual learner but sometimes it’s hard to get a visual of what they see in person on a picture or video. Think maybe if I had a book as opposed to a screen that may help
I empathize with that, I honestly do. But nobody is calling anybody "stupid." You can learn this, this is kindergarten stuff. So now I'm going to be accused of calling you a "kindergartner?" Do you see? That's where threads like these go, now. They go off the rails like that, and in a heartbeat. Can I give you some advice without being accused of being "forward" on such short acquaintance, if you will? If I can, it's this. Read, then ask. You didn't even know what this was called when you asked this question. If you want to know whether you have a doubled die, first take the time to find out what a doubled die is. At the minimum, you'll come out with the correct terminology. Burton gave you a very good link for that. We give that link out, all the time. Do you know who bothers to take the time to click and read it? Virtually nobody. We know that the way they keep asking the same uninformed questions, over and over and over, like a broken wheel. At least if you make an effort, it will be worth making an effort for you. That's all I'm saying. In fact, it would be a pleasure. Having said that, I'll apologize for any part in offending you. I take it back, if that's how you're still perceiving it. I mean it, I mean it, I mean it, I mean it. But think at least of meeting us half way. Click that link, and try to make sense of it. We'll get you the rest of the way. There's a bargain for you. It will be our pleasure to bring you along like that, I'm sure of it as can be.
It is very hard to help someone without knowing what your goal is for learning about coins. Join the ANA and take the correspondence course if you want to do anything with coins aside from looking thru pocket change or rolled coins from banks. Coin roll hunting is fun and relaxing and if you are the one in 5K that actually finds something worth spending $35 to have slabbed that will be the frosting on your cake.
. That is a hell of a lot different than replying 'not again with a edited head banging cartoon- your favorite tool I note.. You know exactly what was being referred to. You are the Champion Insulter.
I honestly (obviously naively), thought that after the last couple of weeks on here, we would cease firing barbs at each other and stick to the subject. How on earth are people new to collecting, for whatever reasons they have, supposed to perceive this site? Helpful, educational and friendly? Or the opposite?
Hi, the post #3 ,from insider is the correct answer. Please forgive or ignore individuals who may appear a little too blunt/upset, the forum has had a forum "divorce" recently that was somewhat rough. Most members will soon become familiar with you, and you will see they are good people that sometimes put out a 'not nice' post, but really you will see their true selves after a while. Most of us are a little 'different' but you'll see. Please keep posting. Jim
ok ok been staring at too much stuff now what about this one i need to find one in person i can see that is the other kind basically so my brain can catalog it ...
Thank you, it wasnt so much that you offended me i can just imagine without determination when first learning this can be quite overwhelming. I would hate for somebody to start doing something that is considered an older generations collectible/hobby and the art gets lost because of discouragement. In a day and age when we dont watch commercials and scroll through videos theres a lot of things that are being forgotten. I do appreciate the apology and anytime I post I am not looking for an easy answer more so a confirmation. Hours of looking at pictures and things in real life even if i find something I dont yet have the ability and confidence in what i see yet but i dont give up that easy im too intrigued.
