A Two Pesos Gold Coin to be exact and it’s dated 1945. At today’s gold price that’s about $90.00 just for the gold content. It contains .0482 ounces of that yellow metal. Not sure if it’s worth more than that as I know nothing about it other than what I said.

NGC says it is pretty much melt, although there is a premium for low UNC grades. It has to be worth $100 to a collector. I like it. Lots of charisma. Numista says 140,000 minted $97 in AU. Seems to me it should be worth more considering $90 gold content and not over produced.

The original minting was 140k coins, but it has been restruck by the millions in the years since.

I've seen them selling as high as $130 on ebay recently, so it's definitely worth more than melt, even after taking into account fees.

They get a nice premium at 66 and a strong one at 67. I couldnt tell you how high the 68s would go since there's so few of them

NGC says pretty much all world gold is melt. They have a tendency to underestimate world gold values especially when it comes to higher grades

Apparently these were restruck after 1945 in vast quantities to get around the US restrictions on private ownership of gold from 1933-1974. Numismatic gold was excepted, so restriking gold in an existing type was a way of making new "numismatic" gold. During the late 60s-70s inflation there was a lot of interest in ways to get around the gold ownership restrictions

Up to about the 1960's , a 2 peso coin was considered a Mexican wedding token to the family of the bride. I have an old reference guide somewhere, but as usual, I will find it several weeks from now. Yes, I realize it might be sexist , but it was a tradition for many. As such . it seems more than were minted started to appear later ,and the border money exchanges started getting wise and refused to exchange them. Collecting Nut's look good to me. Jim

I bought it from a very reputable dealer in the early 1990’s. The dealer has long since retired but I’m now 3000 away.

In the late 60's I was ordering from a company called First Coinvesters. When I made some purchases more than $100, they would sometimes put one of these in as a bonus. I ended up with 6 of them.
