penny wont believe this doubling

i assure the edge of the coin has no wear marks to indicate this.if you look at a d mint mark then look at my penny its clearly ds all over front and back.the are raised.i will just take it or send it off to get looked at.and what would explain the ds all over the reverse ?there is even a d in one of the colums on the reverse

I can't tell much from the pictures, but possible zinc rot? I found a coin that had a lot of spots that I would have sworn were Ds but after closer look and scraping them with my thumbnail, they just scraped off and showed zinc underneath.

 

That is what I'm thinking.

it is clearly stamped d there is nothing added no scrapes not been run over period.it is a raised stamped d everywere and measures exactly the same as a regular d for a mint mark im 100 percent sure its a major error and im just going to send it to be examined .thanks for your input but its by far not been tampered with.

Jesse, you do realize that the 1987-S was a proof only issue, and this makes the case for mint error really far out. I seem to recall a posting similarly that involved a coin that was previously an encased cent, and had part of the encasing die over the cent, but I can't find it. Best of luck on this.

Anyways not to barge in on another one of your parades but this is a forgers penny.
Back in hs we would practice gluing mint marks on to pennies. So we would practice with D and S. Alas we would use the same penny over and over again until we perfected how to apply the mitnmark with no signs of the gluing.

Or it could be the reverse engraving and then they would just fill the hole. I never had patience for the reverse engraving, but my metal shop teacher did and he was a pro at it. Its quite easy to do. And if there is multiple it indicates forgery attempts or practices.

your camera takes pictures like mine. Wish you had clearer photos. It does sound like what someone said to me one time..."looks like someone did some fooling with some tooling"...good luck!!!

 

guys i have cherry pickers book and a few others.the d marks are not (glued)on and the are no tampermarks on the edge to show reverse tampering.i will just get it check out its worth it.thanks guys

 

Your description and photos (poor as they are) present an appearance that is not consistent with any sort of mint error or die variety.

I've seen them like that and it can fool you but most of the time it's punctures in the metal and the edge of the puncture raises to form what appears to be a D.

I'm not saying that is what this is , just passing along what I have experienced.
