Silver you know I have no idea what im talking about, but im gonna have some fun and take a stab in the dark. If i were lookin at this coin and estimating with my limited knowledge I would say that this half has XF detail and could be an XF45 if not for the cleaning that is visible on the obverse side. I would guess this is a 100 dollar coin before the cleaning
I'm thinking around VF30, based on the wear on the drapery,and the eagle's neck and the right wing. The obv. image is overexposed. I don't think it looks cleaned, just circulated. Another photo of the obverse with less exposure would be helpful.
VF-20. If a generic (square base 2) 1827, $130. However, there are 44 different square base 2 die varieties for the year 1827 ranging from well over 1,000 known (R.1) in that die variety to the Overton die variety O-149 with less than 4 known (R.8). That one would be extremely valuable.
Thanks guys. Now the skinny. I bought this at the coin show. It came in a certified green holder by Coin World that can be opened. The grade on the holder was VF30. I paid $80 for it.

As I said, the certification was done by Coin World. I was a little wary though, because the holder can be opened up....so it is possible that the coin was replaced with another one.....but after people's comments here, I can rest assured it is the VF30 coin. Of course, I'm guessing if PCGS did the grading, it would probably come out VF20 or so.
I didn't think that Coin World did certifications. Is there a bar code or serial number that looks like it was professionally done (i.e., not on an ink jet printer)? Could it be that it is in a Coin World holder (they sell holders for all coins) and that whoever had the coin put his/her own grade and just closed it up. If that was the case, then the VF-30 would be suspect. No matter what, it seems to be a solid VF-20 and $80 is a good price.
There is a bar code. I too didn't realize that Coin World did grading. I'm more suspect on the coin being removed and another put in it's place, as the holder does come apart and the coin can be removed easily enough. But, after hearing people's grades on this coin, I'm fairly certain that it is the VF-30 that is on the holder. Thanks, guys.
I just picked this one up for $50 at a local dealer due to the scratches on the obv. I noticed that to figure out the attribution is rediculous so I just wanted to share. I know she wont grade due to the scratches but what do you think she would detail at?
