I have some BEP Souvenir Cards and really enjoy them. I know that people collect them and I'm guessing that an album of them would be a very interesting collection item that could provide as much enjoyment as looking through an album of currency. Also I love some of the old currency designs and while I could never afford the notes, the Souvenir Cards are affordable and are intaglio printed from the original dies. I'm just wondering if folks collect these based upon the issuing cause such as ANA Convention or IPMA Convention ? I recently purchased this Souvenir Card for the Engravers Group Project I'm working on.
That would be a nice collection, and I'm certain much cheaper than the originals! Interesting to see all the details about the original artist, the designer, and the engravers all listed. From previous discussions, this is apparently hard information to find as relates to US notes. Dave
I use to collect them by The Mellone's Photo Encyclopedia of Souvenir Cards by Howard C.Tiffner in #number order, example The BEP cards start at B1 & continue upward ,not by the ANA convention .The ABNCo # start at SO #1 and continue upward.I have White Ace Albums (1 for BEP cards & 1 for ABNCo cards.)that are made to hold the cards and you buy protective clear sleeves to mount the cards into and protect them.It is a affordable way of getting a note made from original dies. Their are other souvenir cards by US Postal Service ,United Nations Postal Service also.Private Printers Cards are also sold but I mainly collected ABNCo & BEP Cards
I really like this album and approach. Mine are in a FexEx envelope on a shelf with some coin books. I've found the sheets and books on White Aces website and plan to order one to get started. I only have 5 or six cards right now. Thanks for the info and help. I may be adding a few of these to my collection this year.
I started by keeping in original envelopes but getting to them to show someone was time consuming and by buying 2 albums I was able to separate the BEP cards from the ABNCO cards even though the ABNCO cards had to be mounted on White Ace cards with the BEP logo on the top of the pages. The pages get a bit heavy so I bought plastic tabs that self adhere to pages for easy turning,Don't forget to order the clear protective self adhesive sheets, you can slide the card in & out of . Also you don't have to have a safe or Safety Dep. Box to show your colletion. Here is an example of a ABNCo Card of the Kingdom of Hawaii 1896 note intaglio printed from original dies with the King of Hawaii.
Here's a thread I recently started on the Souvenir Cards I've collected with replicas of old currency designs. Absolutely love these as they are likely the only way to own many of these in perfect condition. :hammer:
Great print. Thanks for all of the info on albums and protective sheets. I think that's the way I'm going to go with mine. I'll probably start with one album since I only have a few cards.
Krispy, Your original thread was what caused me to post this thread. I figured my question on how folks organize and prioritize their collections would have gotten lost amongst all the terrific cards being posted there.
The more the merrier! I love these great cards of original engravings  I think we might just be able to get a few people around here turned on to Souvenir Cards :smile
