I bought very interesting coin yesterday. It is 2 para / 3 kopeks from the Moldova & Valachia. A Coins of this type minted during the Russian occupation of Valachia (5 November 1769 - 21 July 1774).
Russian troops captured many Turkish guns during the Russian-Turkish war, and Russian occupation Administration minted coins from the Turkish trophy guns!
Well. This coin was a Turkish gun many years ago.

That's very interesting , I'm always intrigued by coins that where minted from metals salvaged from spoils of wars.

Thanks for posting my Russian friend :D

Digressing a little, but still on topic, I think: Money made from guns and cannons also circulated in Ireland, in the late 17th century. Here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gunmoney is a short introductory text. And this page http://www.irishcoinage.com/GUNMONEY.HTM has some images. Interesting that most of these pieces do not only have a year of issue but also a month ...
