Hey What does this coin grade? What is it worth? It looks to be in really good condition to me. It does have a few marks on it though. I pulled this out of a role of half dollars today. The halves came from a really small town with only one bank. There is no telling how long this has been in that bank. I was very excited. I've never found anything older than a Ben. Thanks for looking
wow, that is quite a find-- I've never heard of a seated half found in a roll recently! The coin looks xf in terms of wear, i can't tell if there is some surface damage or corrosion, but regardless that is a remarkable discovery.
Great find! But please, lets not start the "small town" myth stuff again. Even if it had been sitting for a "long" time, how long? What was the most recent Kennedy in the roll? The earliest would have been the 1970's, I'm assuming. I can tell you, it would have been an ACCIDENT to find that in a roll in the 1970's. There were actually coin collectors back then in the good ole days. I can personally tell you that it would have been a historic event to find a 1871 half in a roll of halves in 1975. If it was an old roll and it wasn't an accident, then how many Franklins and Walkers did you find in the same roll? Sorry for the rant. I believe you found it and it's a SUPER find, but that "small town" thing gets under my skin. Sorry again.
Hey bud you need to chill out. When I say a "long time" I mean at most a couple years. I wasn't saying that this roll had been sitting in the bank since 1871. In large cities there is so much demand for halves that they are almost out the door as soon as they come in. Did I say anywhere in my post that you find more in small towns or anything like that? No, I just mentioned it came from a small town.
I live in a fairly big city area (Washington DC suburbs) and found a 67 and 69 Kennedy, and a Walking Liberty half that was dateless last month. This was out of 10 rolls. Both Kennedys were in one roll. I think the difference is in the counting machines. When they were hand rolled, these coins got pulled. The machines don't care about the date.
I'm thinking VF something. The spots worry me trying to come up with a value. Wild guess, $30 to $60. Cool find. Something else thats cool to me. The coin looks as if no one has messed with it for many many years. Nice original look. Hope it stays that way.
