1874-CC, that saw some limited overseas circulation before circulating back home!

an 1875 CC in XF; most went to the Orient and were chopmarked or melted.

Look closely at Lady Liberty - this is the ultra rare DDO, picked off Ebay a couple years ago. One of my favorite cherry-picks ever!!

Truly one of the great all time eBay cherries, isn' t that the only one in a straight graded holder?

In case anyone needs to see a "normal" obverse for comparison:

I wish! I thought it had a good chance of straight grading when I sent it in, but it came back VF Details, Cleaned. Oh well, it's still one of the more eye appealing ones out there.

Beautiful stuff in this thread, including several jaw-droppers. I haven't managed to land one yet, but it's near the top of my list.

Part of the issue for me is that I'm not expert enough to pick out fakes online, and this type is notorious for that. So I guess I'll pay up for a certified example, though I'd rather not.

I presume not even chop marks may be depended upon as an indication of authenticity? They fake everything else in China so I guess they fake those too...

Looking at all these posts, I think the dealer at a LCS over graded this at AU55. The motto on the reverse is illegible. It was one of the first $Trade1877FrontIMG_8471.jpg $Trade1877BackIMG_8472 (2).jpg coins I bought in over 40 years. I think it is probably only a VF-30 if I am lucky. The reverse appears worse than the obverse.

Hope the price on the flip is not what was paid. It would be a stretch to call this one a 35, let alone a 55. Still a nice coin and piece of history, though!

I'd call it a 40, surfaces look nice. I agree.. the "55" on the 2x2 is .... optimistic.
