I have fallen for the George Washington $5 gold commemorative bigtime, its just such a gorgeous coin!!Anyone know where to get one??It has a LOW mintage,to have one in any grade would be nice!I dont guess,I KNOW they are hot I went to the coin shop today and was talking about it and they have only had 2 of these ever to go in there store, they told me"Good luck getting one of those in a descent grade!" Oh well, hopefully someday, let me know if ya hear anything.
:hail: You can get them on Ebay, expect to pay about $400 for each one. I have the 2-pc set and like it very much.
It is a great looking coin. There is one on ebay right now with no bids. Goodluck on it. http://cgi.ebay.com/1999-George-Was...mQQptZCoins_US_Individual?hash=item2c537ec423
I agree that this is a great looking coin. Cool eagle on the reverse. Google it and you will find a decent number on either ebay (as noted above) or through other online sellers. TC
Laura Gardin Fraser designed this coin. This design won top honors and was supposed to be the new quarter design in 1932. Instead the U.S. Mint director picked Flanagans design which I also like. She also designed the Grant half dollar and the Grant $1 gold comm. coins in 1922. She and her husband James Earle Fraser also designed the Oregon Trail Comm. Half dollar. She designed the obverse of the Alabama Comm. Half dollar as well. The designers back then blow todays designers away.....no contest !!!
You can go buy 10 of them any day of the week, and 10 more the next day, and the next, and the next. At one time I owned 4 of each, Proof and Unc. all slabbed as 69's and 70's. They peaked in price around late 2003 and have pretty much dropped since.
Dont think so! Man,I tried typing it in and only a few popped up I think they definately will go back up if people were smart they would realize the design is one of the BEST,you could never get tired of seeing that coin, and dude there is way LOW MINTAGE,ESPECIALLY THE UNCIRCULATED!!You proved it yourself all of those you bought,do you still have one?You should get another they are gonna rise like crazy and everyone will be kicking themselves in the rear!Yeah, I agree when I get the chance DEFINATELY THE "UNCIRCULATED!"
I wasnt just checking ebay, other links that have the coin in bold, just talks about it, I should probably be a little more case sensitive!?
As an example, this 1 guy has 3 of them for sale right now at $399 each - http://www.goldeneaglecoin.com/item/Gold_$5_Commemorative_1999_George_Washington_Proof Took me 10 seconds to find that. How many do you think I can find in an hour?
The eagle on this coin is a very cool design. You can watch TeleTrade's Modern Gold Commemorative listings (or set up a want list) plus you can track their past prices realised... also HA.com
The mintage of this coin is of little consequence IMO. The current certified population of 2190/809 in MS69 is more than enough to satisfy any demand in the marketplace. At this moment, the coin is a bullion coin.
mintage Mintage is 22,511 for uncirculated and proofs is 41,693.Personally, I'd go for the Uncirculated.
