I'm fine with the change, it would be better than say, nixon on the $50. Also, as for roosevelt, I'm still mad at him for his little gold act... Maybe we should put him on a gold coin for pure irony! >=]

After reading your comments I agree and see a problem. Too many relatives and an acclamation of every thing He stood for. Then I realized the Catholic Church acclaimed a saint when He was still warm, Not ready for a SAINT RON!! Whats worse, another National holiday!

Anybody old enough to have been there wouldn't put JFK very high on the list of Presidential achievers either. I think we should return to the ALL LIBERTY personages.

As a foreigner (non-American) I'd just like to add my thoughts.

Reagan on a banknote? No. For one thing it's too early and there are people worldwide who would lose the respect for the mighty dollar with a portrait of Ronnie on it. I think it's a mistake to put any recent or current world political leader on any banknote in any country. Can you imagine the worldwide outcry if a country put Bin Laden's portrait on a banknote? Not that I'm comparing between the two but a country should take into account the sensitivities of other nations.

Bin Laden, really, that is the best comparision you could come up with? I actually agree with your argument that recent politically leaders should not be on currency, including FDR, JFK and DDE, but the mention of Bin Laden as a comparison to Reagan is disgraceful and mean spirited in my opinion.

I didn't mean to upset anyone by dragging Bin Laden into the discussione but I did say that I was not comparing the two. I just wanted to use an extreme example. I could have used Col Gaddhafi (who does feature on his countries banknotes). The point I was trying to make was that to use a recent world leader would be frowned on by some countries/people who may not harbour good thoughts about that person.

The U.S. has had quite a few over the years....

Lincoln was on paper money during his lifetime (before that practice was prohibited), and has stayed there pretty much ever since.

Garfield was assassinated in 1881, and appeared on a $5 note in 1882.

McKinley was assassinated in 1901, and appeared on a $10 note in 1902.

FDR died in office in 1945, and appeared on the dime in 1946.

Kennedy was assassinated in 1963, and appeared on the half-dollar in 1964.

If you don't want to count Presidents who died in office, then we've still got....

Grant left office in 1877 and appeared on a $5 note nine years later in 1886.

Benjamin Harrison left office in 1893 and appeared on a $5 note nine years later in 1902.

Ike left office in 1961 and appeared on the dollar coin ten years later in 1971.

Wilson left office in 1921 and appeared on a $100,000 note fourteen years later in 1935 (though that one never circulated).

Cleveland left office in 1897 and appeared on a $20 note seventeen years later in 1914.

So that's *ten* different Presidents who were depicted on money within twenty years of their time in office. Reagan left office in 1989, so it's been twenty-one years already. Putting him on currency today would be well within historical norms.

Popular culture distorted the time frame, so the Pres. would have been around. ;)

just thinking that our money is due for a change and I agree with the idea that our money should not honor personages, we are lousy with raccoons around here, have to use tie downs for our garbage can lids, it is an american native animal so it would be as traditional as a buffalo. Nothing against reagan personally tho.

    Oh God No!

The best idea I've heard is to put him on a credit card - after what he did to the national debt.

I wasn't offened. Understood what you intended to do by example, however, you are right Col Gaddhafi would have been a more apt personage to compare (not-compare) per Reagan's era... he used to call him the 'mad dog of the Middle East'! :D Now he's been forgiven :goofer: Heck put both of them on a two faced note!
