got a dateless shield nickel in looose change today from starbucks. the observe is fine where the 5 cent design is, however the back is pretty worn, its grade would be ag3. I can see 187 but the fourth numeral is gone except for a little tip of it lol.
Second shiled nickel ive found in 8 years of searching.

And I was always told Starbucks was better than Dunkin' Donuts.

In my change from DD about a month or so ago, I got a Franklin half. :)

After I had the box yesterday with 28 silver halves, I decided to go back to that same bank for more. I only went there yesterday because the bank that normally orders for me forgot. This bank is several miles from my house, so I don't go there often. They have the yellow wrapper halves, and I've consistently had better luck with Brinks.

    Well, my box today yielded 52 40%ers. :D :) :D

The thing is, at first, EVERY single roll had 3 to 4 in it. After 10 rolls, I had a blank roll or two, then had 2 to 3 in every roll. I had 49 silver halves after opening 20 rolls. I thought I was going to have a 100 to 150 silver box. Then it dried up and I only got 3 more the rest of the way and at first I was disappointed.

Then, I thought, WAIT, 52 is my best box ever. lol.

It was another great coin day!

Picked up 10 rolls of halfs this morning, same bank as yesterday, my wife got to them before I could but that's alright, she loves it as much as I do! Out of the 10 rolls she found 3 90%, 16 40% and 1 1935 walking liberty. The walker wasn't in very good shape but gave her the biggest smile I think I have ever seen!!!

    Questions from a Newbie

I am still very new here, but have become quite interested in the prospect of finding silver halves. I have a couple questions and I hope they are not repeats, as I have gone back quite a few pages to look for answers, but 300 pages is quite a lot to look through.

Do you find that big banks or small banks are better for buying rolls? How do I make sure, or better my chances, that someone else did not just return the rolls I am purchasing? I realize not every roll is going to be a winner, but I don't want to be heading to the bank and buying boxes that have just been cleared. Where do you guys get the Brinks rolls? I live in Southern California, not sure if this will help answer any of my questions.

Thanks, and I am looking forward to getting started.

I do my banking at a suburban branch of a major Chicago bank. They tell me they can't get fifty cent rolls. I never asked the other banks because you normally have to have an account with them for them to do business with you.

Just be confident with a little small talk, and ask. I get things from banks I don't have an acct. with all the time.

I've opened minimal accounts a 3 other banks so I can have them order coins for me. The answer is, you just have to shop around. Some banks order halves, some don't. One of the ones that does for me told me no until I continued to come back and be nice. Then, all of a sudden they did.

OK, box three from this different bank was a significant drop from my last two winners. I found 3 40%ers in it today. But, in 3 days, 3 boxes, and 83 silver halves. My best streak ever. Spring break is coming, and will take a little break next week and spent it with the kids, so Erin, don't find ALL of the silver. :)

Halfway through the 4 boxes I got. It appears they have already been searched and ends recrimped. I did manage to find 1 %40 and an 82P no FG slider.

i don't have an account with any bank, but get rolls frequently. it never hurts to ask. most banks will exchange paper for coins without you having to be a customer. but, to exchange coins for paper, that's a different story.

I will let yall know how it turns out."

Financeman, I think whatever you're interested in is what you should save. When I go through my cents I retain 1970's back. My idea is to save enough of the 70's to complete a couple of books for my kids then turn in the rest for more.

I find and keep what I call Oddities coins that are double stamped, missing numbers, not centered correctly, etc. I am not a collector of Canadian coins but I get enough I might as well be. My last neat find was from the Republic of Panama, 2001 kinda neat.

I also keep any coin that has reatined its near new look shine. 2009 cents too, I have a bunch of those put away. My Bank Teller tells me she has seen the 2010 cent but they haven't had any come through the bank yet.

I deal primarily with one bank, now that I do the Tellers are starting to hold back the older coins I like for me, neat.

    Anyway, happy searching!

$10 in cents yielded 8 wheats (all common, 1942 being the oldest), 3 canadian, 5 lp1, 4 lp2, and 4 lp3 (one D! 2 down, 2 to go). still have not pulled an lp4 from circulation.
