Found this the other day when going through some of the coins left by my father. Not sure what year it may be or what the damage is. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Don
You got a mercury dime, as @Heavymetal said it’s a cull, but I’m not sure what date it is. It’s 90% silver though so good find!
It's a 1916-1919 Mercury dime with a Denver mintmark. I'd concur that 1917 seems to be the most likely date. There's a buck and half worth of silver there ($1.5169, to be precise, by today's Coinflation quote).
With the damage to the last digit, you will probably never know what the date is, so as a damaged "silver" dime, it is worth melt value. Still a nice find.
Thanks all for your replies. I was with Treashunt hoping for the magic "16". Oh well, at least its silver.
Put it on eBay for bidding - maybe somebody's pareidolia will imagine a 6 and you'll make a profit on your worn Merc
IMO the coin is a 1917-D that is unfortunately damaged around the last date digit, as previously pointed out, however, because of the overall appearance that damage to me doesn't look too objectionable--I would keep it as a memento for your enjoyment.
