I have a scale weight with letters I do not know. Rectangular weight with symbol. 5.85 grams 13.6 X 10.6 X 6.0 mm Can someone here translate this? I found a couple of websites on scale weights with similar symbols. I do not find a rectangular scale weight the correct weight range. عد = "fair" Comment: The acronym عد should be an abbreviation of عدل D10 (50g.com)
Thanks, I think you are saying the translation "Justice" is correct. I guess that is like the Romans putting Aequitas (Justice) on a coin. Roman Empire 1 Antoninianus Gallienus 253-268 AD. Silvered Antoninianus. Antioch. Av.: GALLIENVS P F AVG Radiate and cuirassed bust to right. Rev. AEQVITAS AVG Aequitas standing facing head turned left holding scales and cornucopiae; star in upper left field. RIC 626
I would translate it more as "just" in the sense of full-weight, lawful, legitimate. The word 'adl is not uncommon on Islamic coins and though I haven't studied Islamic weights in depth, it makes perfect sense in that context.
