I just started an instagram account (like 5 days ago) and had posted some good yen photos, and had about 70 connections already. But it got hacked out from under me (no idea how and my other new account was untouched). Looks like it has been de-activated/does not exist. I can't use the same email to start a new one as 'it is associated with an account already', but can't recover the old account as 'there is no account associated with the email'. Hard to understand how both are possible. In any case, for those of you I'd already contacted, sorry. Not my doing. Some dude or dudette with a hotmail account now has it. Or maybe deleted it. Or something. Instagram is horrible for figuring out help...repetitive loops to an unhelpful help page with occasional side trips to using phone for recovery (but no SMS codes come through) or email (not mine anymore). So, for now, if starcityhomer is contacting you or starts oddball posting, it's not me. Maybe I'll brush off the Stork email and try again. Sigh. It was kind of fun.
Did you click on any link that someone sent to your inbox? There have been several cases over the last few months of people being hacked by clicking links sent to them by scammers (which might seem legitimate at first but aren't in reality). A few other things I've seen is people being banned for items IG does not "approve" (certain political topics) or doing too many posts at once. I don't recall seeing you doing either of those two though.
Perhaps you crossed a line, and the host deleted your account without acknowledgement. Just my opinion. Good luck.
One post a day, a Japanese yen . Nothing political or naughty whatsoever. I did click a link or two somewhere IIRC. Someone showing off a coin, but oh well. Lesson learned. I guess StarCityHomer can either be revived with a different email/slightly changed format. I can change it to something where the Homer gets dropped off (that was my good boy doggo and since he died I'm a little melancholy when I see the name) and go for 'collections'. I grabbed that domain so I can redo my SCH website. Or maybe Stork can have an account (I've been Stork longer than StarCityHomer) and make the starcity name I pick the sub-name. Somehow I doubt 'Stork' as a straight up name is available though. And StarCityStork just isn't right. It was just a bummer and I spent far too much time trying to figure it out. I FINALLY found a screen I could actually submit a 'my account has been hacked' report. Got a canned response requesting details (nothing sensitive) and I guess I can wait and see. @ddddd had I started following you there? I can't remember who I was following under what names!
Any idea what would do that? One of my help section searches indicated that if an account was banned or suspended you would get a message stating that fact. I was just starting to have fun and I was redoing my photos in advance of revamping my website. Ah well.
I'd suggest you try it again with a new email. You had some cool posts up and were building up a good following. A few people I know had to start over too and they did. I'd avoid clicking any links going forward (most are safe but it's better not to risk it). If someone you know wants you to visit a website-have them just type out the address and you can examine it more carefully. And we did follow each other. I saw your post on the CU forum first and commented there. I'm u1toning on Instagram.
Starcityhomer can be found @ "https://www.starcityhomer.com/contact.html" but the site is "undergoing change and says inactive. Jim
If it is your account, contacting your URL service provider as they may have closed it for some reason . They do not try to explain or anything, just lock the account.
That is my website. I am going to be changing web hosts (a whole different conversation!) and am in the middle of trying to muddle through Wordpress. I've disabled most of the stuff on the site, just not the Japan and Albania pages. And Japan is woefully incomplete. It had too much extraneous stuff, I've gotten rid of a lot. Moving forward it will be Albania, Japan, and medals (maybe). It will be a new site build too. I started that on Weebly years ago and their proprietary website builder, though not bad, is not cut out for the many pages and sub page navigation. I'm either going to straight up Wordpress it (if that can be used as a verb), or maybe use a builder like BoldGrid that is non-proprietary. Wix is nice, a lot of the others, but I want the open format of Wordpress. There are a lot of web hosting companies that have WP builders, or their own builders but I don't want anything that won't be portable. Basically I'm trying to stave off senility with this project . And on an unrelated note, anyone have opinions on specific host sites/builders? I am leaning towards DreamHost or InMotion as they both have BoldGrid. Or BlueHost which has a reportedly nice builder. But all the focus is on simple, clean, commerce or blog sites. I need more of an 'encyclopedia' or wiki site. So a good WP theme would be interesting too. I'm looking at Wikilogy but that is a premium (paid) theme. And the fact I am understanding all this so far is amazing. I'm about as old as you can get and not be a Boomer!
And that is part of why I want my site off Weebly hosting. I don't want some place that has my site hostage literally or figuratively, because I used Weebly for hosting, used their proprietary builder, AND they have my domain. They got bought out by somebody (Square maybe) and I don't feel the urge to parse through a more complicated company structure and 'legacy' site nonsense. Weebly hasn't locked me out though. I'm just shopping around and trying to expand my skillset. And was tired of looking at the site that annoyed me. ETA: the hacking was the Instagram account. Which I believe I will stop wasting mental energy on. I'll start over at some point. Maybe with the gold coins to make it interesting. Interestingly my other Instagram account I started the same day (for my chickens, in my spare time I'm a crazy chicken lady), is fine even though I logged in on the same app. I think @ddddd is onto something. It was probably one of the links in a message. Normally I don't click links but I'm sure I did there.
I use hostmonster.com myself. A little more expensive, but for 7 years, always professional, friendly, and available when you call with a problem. IMO, Jim
I must be naive. I've heard "Instagram" mentioned a time or so and I don't know what "Instagram " is. Can you recommend a place that talks about it so I can understand what is being said to/from/or anything that would recommend? it?
It's a social media company owned by Facebook. Their original emphasis was posting square photos with various built in-filters available. Demographic was a little younger than Facebook. Now it allows other kinds of posts and videos (and non-square photos), so it's not all that different than other social media sites. But each has their own culture and user base.
Like @The Eidolon said. Social media. To give a hint IIRC Kim Kardasion (?sp) has the biggest following. It's nice for showing off coin photos. Some use as a selling platform. My husband uses it as he take arty photos and his friends see them. I think of it as pictures with some words. Vs. Facebook which is words with some pictures. Someone on another message board had asked me a few times about joining, so I did. I try to do new things that make my brain do something different every so often. Apparently this spring it's coins/computers.
Why would this happen? So weird. I find Instagram and Twitter to be profoundly uninteresting platforms...
Actually, numismatically there is an active Buy/Sell community out there on IG. For many big-name dealers, it's just another channel to showcase their wares. Coin pics directing you to their website and auctions... just scanning who I'm following: David Lawrence Rare Coins West Coast Coins of Oregon Heritage NGC PCGS Frank Sedwick Larry Shapiro Rare Coins Harry Laibstain Rare Coin Then there are 1000 local coin stores in cities and towns I'll never visit. And a 100 younger dealers who never bothered to set up a B&M store. Those vest pocket dealers running around CSNS or ANA or FUN or a small local show, buying dozens of coins? They'll buy anything they think has resale potential and offer it to the much broader market. I've seen coins that were bought on the floor, imaged and posted from the restroom, aggressively priced, and sold before the dealer returns to the floor!
"Bronzemat" here from IG, sorry to hear you're having issues. Hopefully things could get squared away for you. Exactly, I have gotten some respectable deals in IG not just with coins, but some of my other hobbies as well.
I like the extended reach, if Isaiah or Denis posts something they found up north or Drew who hits all the Houston area shows (and a lot more ... I watched him buy some of the restroom sink photo coins )....
You could always post Yen pictures on this forum. I don't think I even have an Instagram account, but I'm guessing you're looking for a wider audience? In any case, I'm also a big Yen fan, so this gives me another excuse for some gratuitous Yen posting (of possibly my most favorite design ever). 1896 - 明治二十九年 1903 - 明治三十六年 1912 - 明治四十五年 1914 - 大正三年
