I've been roll searching for about a year now. I like searching cents so that's usually what I get. My best find is a 2005 Lincoln Memorial in high AU condition possibly with about a 30% rotated reverse which probably has no value anyways. Recently I had been noticing that alot of people in this thread get rolls from gas stations or convenience stores. I know they have limited supply but I was just wondering how you go about this. I usually just go to my local bank for rolls but I work late and the banks are usually closed by then. I just wanted to know if it would be weird if I walk into a gas station and ask for a few rolls of cents, but since I always have the itch to search cents, this really sounds more convenient for me. Thanks!

    Teller

My teller came through a week late but I am not complaining lol. The one that told me she had some silver coins for me at home brought them to work today. She gave me $6 in halves:

    1950D
    1953D
    1963D
    1964D
    5 40%'ers
    3 non-silver 1976

Then I went to get my box today and AGAIN someone dumped a box of halves in my bank so they did not order. UGH Those who put the coins back in the BRINKS rolls and turn them back in in the box are killing me!

Couple weeks ago got $60 in cents, nickels, dimes & quarters. Best find was a 1972 quarter that I've been looking for the last several years. Also found several higher circ upgrades in nickels and quarters 1965-1973. Nothing in cents or dimes, but I'm happy:) Over the years I've found a few proofs in rolls, but the last silver was Kennedy halves in about 1980. Actually my first silver dime was under a pop machine.

I picked up two rolls of cents at the grocery store. One roll had a wheatie at each end, with a total of four wheaties. The other roll had sixteen wheaties. Whoo hoo!!!

    Great coin day

    Had a great coin day:

    • Starting with last night (24 hours is a day, right?), I won a raffle at my coin club and got a BU 1955 silver quarter.
    • Stopped at a bank, and could see in the teller's coin till, two white edged dimes. I asked for all of them (didn't want her to pull it back do to it being silver....that has happened to me before). She tried to give me a roll, and I told I wanted the loose ones and scored a 1954 and a 1963.
    • Next bank had a 1963 red seal five dollar bill (OK, not a coin, but I have a currency collection too).
    • Then, bought a box of halves and found one 1974S proof, 26 40%ers and 2 1964 90%ers.
All the above for face or free (first bullet)....it was a great coin day! :hail:

    Coin sorting machines

Does the modernization of coin counting machines make coin hunting easier or harder?

I have been talking to some tellers in my area and if customer bring in rolled coins they open those up and dump them in the coin counters. Then a service like loomis or brinks collects those coins. That service rolls them and then sells them back to banks when banks order them.

I have heard coin star machines reject silver so I wonder if these places if thier coin counters also reject silver thereby making hunting pretty worthless.

I have found some 40%ers in halve rolls but no pre 64 coins. Im wondering if they will be rejected and I wont find them.

S mint mark on Halves = Proof?

Thanks for the help in advance. In Kennedy halves does the S mint mark = proof? If so, what value does that have? If not, what indicates a proof?

    Thanks, Im learning.
