Was this possibly a die crack or is this deterioration from aging and wear and tear? Corrosion?

I was all set to say PMD on this one, with the colors making it look like acid damage -- but I wonder if this actually started as a planchet defect, with sections missing from the obverse clad layer? I see that one margin of the "trench" near Q is raised, which I wouldn't expect if the coin was struck this way, but that could possibly have happened post-strike.

    Interesting!

Not a die crack, looks like corrosion.

It could be adhesive the way it is peeling upwards from the edges. Try a soak in 100% acetone (NOT nail polish remover) for an hour or so and see if it loosens or dissolves.

Yes it is. I kept looking and comparing and it just seems like the aging had set in on something that is really there. Thank you!

Hi Pam, if it is a lamination it sure look like the one I posted yesterday. It is different and feel it’s worth saving for now. His was your weekend?

I mowed the lawn, all 7 acres. Yesterday I had to buy a new computer. I only have Internet on my phone and the new computer barely does anything without the Internet.

That is an odd one. Parts look like a stain and others a lamination. Let us know how the soak goes.

Post mint damage (PMD). You can see a liquidity substance ran down the face of the coin and caused corrosion.

Now I know what it reminds me of! It reminds me of the bridge of my nose, post-crash and post-stitches. :(
