I bought about a hundred Eisenhower dollars from an estate sale today. 4 are uncirculated blue coin and box silver very nice coins. However one is a 1972 S type 2 pegleg grade 66 or better. I can find nothing on PCGS or otherwise showing a value. Is it common or should it be graded?
I have a few pictures of the coin. Want to be sure it is type 2? Thanks. Pictures do not do coin justice. Sorry
Was also going to say indeed Type-2...don't think there's a Type-1 in a 72-S...at least from memory...but will yield if so. Some references list them as such but some don't because there isn't anything else but Type-2. As a side, had never heard nor seen anything of a "pegleg" Ike variety listed or referenced anywhere before this...but I've lead a somewhat sheltered life.
That,s what I thought...I was checking out my PF 71s's and have 1 peg leg out of 6 coins. The 72s's are all so-called peg leg from design only. I have 8 72-s MS to examine for varieties...how common are these "shadow" coins to locate? This is the first I've heard of them. No mention of them in the Wexler authoritative guide book either. So do the 72-s MS coins have different reverses? I'm having a tough time understanding.
