I hate to laugh at someone elses miss fortune. I hope he is able to raise some money for a car and his kid on the way but I dont think he is going to get any were close to what he thinks he is going to. Maybe someone should tell him to go to a dealer so he can get a real value.
On the other hand, he may have already done that and that is why he is saying not to low ball him and he is not retarded.
As they say, anyone can pick up a magazine and look up a number. That does not mean people are actually going to pay that.

dayriser, Don't want to burst your bubble but the numbers really are the inventory numbers. My best guess on value, the stated grades, without seeing the coins, on a good day, downhill, with a tail wind based on my 2010 Red Book would be:

    1897 indian head cent (good) 144.05 $3.00
    1912 liberty head nickel (good) 425.05 $2.00
    1928 liberty standing quarter (good) 1222.05 $3.50
    1964-d washington quarter (unc-60) it says f45-06 also 1567.60 $3.50

    1934-d lincoln head cent (fine)230.12 $.30

If my math is correct I see a total of $72.20. A coin dealer isn't going to be real interested because these are common coins in lower grades. A dealer would have a hard time re-selling these, and that would greatly impact what he might offer.

It's hard to hear this I know, but the reality is that the coins you have are not really rare and are in average circulated condition. With the real value known maybe you'll want to just keep them because your grandfather left them to you.

Here is my opinion. He ain't a kid, it ain't a shame, he is trying to scam some poor compassionate sucker out of some money by knowingly listing a bunch of worthless coins with an all too common sob story.

Look at these two lies he told in 7 words

    GRIFTER!

Just to clear it up, I knew from the start that the coins are basically worthless... I saw that the he confused catalog numbers for values, added them all together and thought he had 18k worth of coins, then offerered them for 1500... I texted him and told him they were worth roughly $65 based on my quick mental math in the truck, and told him I could give him $50... He then offered to sell me his xbox 360, to which I didn't respond... I think he really is needing the money and really did think the coins were worth a ton... I actually started to offer him the 1500 bucks just out of sympathy... Anyone wanna buy a 1935-s buffalo nickel f45 for 715.05?.. I got one I can sell you at cost... :kewl:

Not the funniest or saddest, but the scariest post ever.

Apart from the coin list itself, I think there's a serious education fail here.

    SEPREATE
    packedge
    seperate
    econmy
    packdgage

And the most scary statement of all:

    "i have a kid on the way"

Has anyone seen the movie "Idiocracy"?

This reminds me of a question I have:

Do catalog numbers most often come with alpha letters preceding the numbers? I have seen catalog reference numbers on some of the card board holders I picked up with odd ball coins.

It there an easy way to determine which catalog to look at? Is there a list some where?

Is this important for a home/amatuer collection? I am sort of interested to keeping things straight, and it seems using a catalog number would be beneficial. It would also save me from having to write out a lot of amatuer notes that held little value to others in the future. Even some of the less expensive coins I have picked up have noted a catalog number, but I do not know how to retrieve the info.

I noticed from another post that I made this week (Turkey/Harem gold)- where I indicated the Catalog number, that the CT member helping was able to locate useful information for me.

    Thanks.
(If I do not get a response here, I will create a separate thread at anothre time).
