Just because a coin is NOT CERTIFIED means absolutely nothing. Believe it or not there was resistance to TPGS. Many famous dealers had to finally be dragged into the game. They were doing quite well before 1986 (when certification took off).

well I'm not the forum expert on altered surfaces, by a long shot, but I'll say what I think about this particular coin. whizzed: no, that creates a sort of faux luster with raised metal close to the devices near the whizzed area.
tooling? that's usually moving metal around and smoothing out rough areas. I don't see any sign of that. this coin is covered in hairlines with no "unnatural" smooth areas (which would also destroy mint luster).
Puttied? this is used to cover up dings and abrasions, usually on the cheek or fields, this coin has so many hairlines from cleaning that putty would show up as an unnaturally smooth area, like a smooth, sore thumb.
    jmho.

This is really childish. Why don’t you discuss coin facts, instead of taking potshots at individuals who disagree with your condescension. As a grader, you have knowledge to share—so do it, and stop with the immaturity. If there are issues with a coin, share them. We might actually learn something, as opposed to being pushed to be reactive to your elementary school behavior.

I'm no expert on the coin, in fact I have never owned a gold coin. When I looked at this coin, not being slabbed is the last thing that would cross my mind, why, because I never buy the slab couldn't care less about them. I saw a coin that by the artistic design from this period of the time, it appears to be spot on and authentic. There are many scratches on the coin as if it has been rattled around in a coin purse for a bit and the scratches in the field to the upper right of the bust appear to be an employee trying to lap the die to remove a clash that remains evident. The scratches are strait and do not appear to cross the devices. The thing that I would have to research like the OP is the mint mark itself to see if it has been altered. Since I am not an expert why am I replying, because at the bottom of the page on my screen, they gave me a "Post Reply" button.

Ok, in several cases this (un-intendededly) lively thread has gone off the rails. In others good it's been good fun, and in others yet - educational.
Let's stop slinging arrows, I've a few too many to continue to referee.
How about we regroup tomorrow? Be ready to show your work...

My gal is getting upset. She thinking I spend too much time here instead of with her. She's starting to think this is an on-line love affair.

Tell her she needs to learn to recognize the difference between on-line love affairs and mere unhealthy compulsions. ;)

    Morgandude11,

I suggest you put me on "Ignore" but I'm going to keep you around. :p I've started ignoring members (so far 5, worthless to me, non-contributors :bucktooth:) and life it good. I've completely changed my original opinion about "Ignore."

Unsolicited professional opinion: Stay single. You'll have a much better
chance (It is all about the odds.) of happiness. I know very, very, very few couples who both think they have great partners and are as happy as I am. I waited until my late 60's to try it out and got lucky.

    THE COIN IS NOT WHIZZED!!

I did not read where a member stated it is whizzed.

    Stop yelling...

"Hey Mo! Larry is shouting at me again!!!"

    "Comoverhere.."

    'Hey! Dat hoits!!"

    "Turn around..."

    "OUCH!! WADIDOWADIDO??"
