I put two Peace dollars side-to-side so you could possibly see the difference in the surface between the two. The image is about 12X. Both are Uncirculated. The fake is silver but should not fool a dealer or dollar collector.
Left one is fake IMO. The L looks too faded, and the coin seems to have a cloudy look. Also, you can see a contact mark from a reeded edge on the right one which I think would be uncommon on a fake as they would try to make the best quality fakes possible, and not leave them in bags to get scratched and marked.
Cannot post entire coin. Not needed anyway to see there is an obvious difference between the two. I didn't think I needed to post that the one on the left was counterfeit. The first members to post saw the difference. The coin on the left is fake. The relief is shallow and shape of the "L" is "fatty." Look, I realize there is an extremely large difference in expertise among members. I'll try to do better when I don't post a quiz. Thanks for the suggestion. PS Are you the real, long-time Green using a different icon?
Right left right right right (Left)is fakethe surface is questionable and the L's are completely different specifically the left the right is normal.
Not so obvious to this old sod. Full pictures of each are required to make an exact assessment. At least for these old eyes.
Also, the orientation of the two coins makes it somewhat confusing when making a 'juried' assessment.
I was gonna say the left one is fake. Aside from the left one having a weak L, the one on the right shows a bag mark on Liberty's chin that I have seen on many authentic Peace Dollars. Not many counterfeits showing bag marks, especially that from another coin's edge.
I'll vote left. Fields are flat and bland looking. Right has some light die erosion working out to the rims, seems more natural to me.
