what are your thoughts on this error coin? i cant find any info on any coins with the same error all attached photos are of the same coin. any info / opinions are welcome
Not an error. The pictures are a little blurry but what it seems that you have is a coin with linear platting bubble.
Correct on the Plating Issue. There is no such thing as a 19851 Cent. Here is a website for an explanation and other error definitions I want to share this webpage with you - http://www.error-ref.com/blisteredplating/
@Futrell26 First, welcome to the neighborhood! Second, as you continue your journey in numismatics, there will be certain things you learn that are pretty much a given. One of those things is that you will likely not find a 5-digit coin for at least another 7,984 years. Chris
yea, i understand the blistering concept, the only thing that intrigued me about this particular coin, is the "extra 1" after the 1985 date is the same width and length as the other digits in the date. blistering usually wouldnt be so uniform with the rest of the numerical characters. and there is no other blistering / waves or such. i was thinking it was closer to being compared to a coin where they change the date and repunch the coin to change the date if the coin was offset and the extra number was misaligned but reguardless, i appreciate all your inputs. i was thinking about the blistering, but i really dont think it would be so uniform of a blistering. i can try and get a couple more pics of better quality, but you guys may be right lol
They don't change the date in that manner on modern Lincoln Cents. Each year they have produced a new year for the new hub design. It is etched into the Obverse design not punched. Only the Mint Mark was punched into to new design until the mid 1980's not the date.
Pictures or it doesn't exist. Please start a new thread with pictures. This is an old thread from 2016 Welcome to CoinTalk
