A nice EF Indian Head Cent dated from its first year, 1859. This is the Laurel Wreath which did not have a shield. It’s composition is Copper-Nickel. Yes, it’s in my Dansco 7070.
These photos don't show the RPD as well as others could but it's there. Repunched to the southwest, in these photos this is most visible on the flag of the 5 sticking out from the digit. Also note that the date position is higher than normal, closer to the bust than denticles (normally on 1859 it is close to the denticles).
Thanks and as I said, it filled another hole in my Dansco 7070. Slowly but surely I’m getting it filled.
she's real pretty and much nicer then mine I shopping for one for my slabbed 7070 but no luck yet.. I do have one in my IHC folder though She may make the trip to NGC next month if I still can't find one I like@price
I like to grade them the way Rick Snow does. Some think that's a little conservative, I know, [I don't know what happened here but I didn't finish what I was saying]
I like to grade them the way Rick Snow does. Some think that's a little conservative, I know, but even the Red Book says the details have to be sharp in EF. You've a little more than slight ribbon wear on that coin. LIBERTY is nice and sharp. I'll give you it, I'm at VF35. That doesn't make the cut.
You need the line on the ribbon to be on the hair, not flat with the curl, but with a line of demarcation to be EF is what I have been told by someone on this site.
Nice cent! I really do like it a lot. I do not want to hijack a thread, but am curious....why did they add the shield to the reverse design for later dates?
