first off, dutch auctions are not allowed any more and second look at the price for these 505 cents. http://cgi.ebay.com/505-Old-Wheat-C...mQQptZCoins_US_Individual?hash=item335ade112c
$1299 for 500 pennies. WOW!!!! That is $3 a penny.I hope no one is dumb enough to bid on these coins. People like that should be put out of business for trying to rip people off like that. I cant stand that
When one sets up a Fixed Price auction, E-Bay allows you to set how many items you have for sale. That's what this guy did. It's totally cool. While I agree it's an absurdly high price, I don't think it's against anyone's rules... E-Bay or elsewhere. We can only hope no one nibbles on the bait. I don't think it's reportable. You can try, though, and see what happens.
Wow, that is scary. Hard to believe he doesn't know what else is in there. What is a dutch auction anyway?
It is considered a dutch auction (or lottery) when he said you might get one of the following coins 1909vdb 1910S 1911S 1914d 1931s
He says you WILL get at least 1 of each. He says he threw them in. It's the "rest" of the bag that he doesn't know what you're getting.
You are dead on for the high prices, but not quite for the " set how many items you have for sale" - at least for coins. You see they require a picture of THE coin you are selling. Now whether they carry that to include this type of auction, I do not know, but they actually have pulled dutch auctions for single coins such as 10 X 1955-S NGC 66 RD's
Sounds like a good way to get rid of A LOT of .03-.05 wheats (I've got tons that I fell for during an "unsearched bag" auction when I first started collecting). Just trow in some road kill key dates to sweeten the deal!
Nope He says you will get 1 of the following, meaning 1 random out of the several listed, so Sweet Wheatz is correct!
This is from ebays rules Grab bags are listings where identified items are sold in a group (in a bag). You can list grab bags as long as you follow these rules:
Identify all contents of the grab bag in the listing. The number, quality, or condition of these items doesn't need to be identified.
The listing doesn’t single out anything that “may” be contained in the grab bag that has particular monetary or obvious collectible value. For example, grab bag listings for collectible comic books can’t allude to the possibility that a specific rare, high value comic book “may” be included in the grab bag. This type of listing is considered a lottery, which is not allowed on eBay. All contents of the grab bag need to follow our prohibited and restricted items policies.
Wow, just re-read it, which is right? He says "each bag has at least one of the following... then says "tossed in one of each of the above coins".
In the lister's defense, you will get at least one of each of the coins listed as I understand, and at least he doesn't list it as "unsearched." Other than that, you can be sure that you will definately not be getting a very good deal.
That's some crafty wording. If you're interpretation is right sweet wheatz, that's just wrong. I wonder how many will fall for that.
I hope nobody. I would be P*$$ed if I spent 1299.99 and all I got was a bag of 40's and 50's plus a 1909 vdb. Even if all 5 are in the bag, I am sure that the condition and value of those 5 don't add up to $500
The more I read this listing, the more I am confused as to whether you get all five of the listed coins, or just the '09 VDB. Either way, I would not spend that kind of money on most likely common dated AGs to VGs anyway. We can leave that to the suckers!
