Hope everyone is having a good weekend so far. So I was unting for pennies and I found this coin. A 1932 D Penny. It looks like a F to a VF . I was wondering what happened to the letter N in "UNUM" ??? is this a greased filled die?
Copper, being easy to move, can actually reform letters and numbers when hit just right. Your coin has taken hits over the years of circulation, so that's what happened.
That's pretty good for a circulation find. Depression-era cents from 1931 - 1933 don't turn up too often.
I was just wondering if the coin has letters damaged . Why is the N has such a clean line on the left side?
As noted above, copper is soft, so it's susceptible to damage. At some point, something with a straight edge and harder than copper moved material to create the interesting effect. Look at enough coins...you'll see this happens pretty regularly.
