1988 Lincoln penny : Extra letter?

Hi,

I don't know if it is a possible extra letter on this coin. Plus, i think ear and face of Lincoln look different. Maybe it is damage... i don't know.

I see a spot with a small incuse 'D', it looks like damage. The top of the ear is thick, not sure exactly what spots you are talking about.

Yes, i tought a D incuse... but as you said, it's probably damage.
