1960's Wild Bill Hickok Wild Bill Hickok 28mm Brass Old Abeline Town, Kansas Tourist attraction Souvenir Brass Medal Most likely circa 1960's or 1970's The recreated cattle town attraction first opened in 1958 and had it's hey-day in the 1960's and earlier 1970's. It closed up in 1981. Several times it has re-opened but interest and finance again dwindled. I believe that still, in Summer and Fall, there are actors who portray towns people, good guys and bad guys and have staged gunfights in this village and some of the buildings have souvenirs and crafts for sale. There seems to be local interest in restoration and promotion but they just can't seem to bring back the tourist trap it once was. My guess is that this medal was made prior to 1981. There doesn't seem to be very many found for sale on the internet and very few images can be found at this time. A 1949 Bowman Wild Bill Hickok at Hays City non sports card I recently added to my other collection of stuff.
1963 J.R. Quigley Frontier Town Montana Medal Probably circa 1963 J.R. Quigley Frontier Town Montana Prospector Old West 30mm Bronze Medal Rather than write a whole lot, this amazing website covers the history of this once popular "Roadside America" attraction. I could have lived there and loved it. They were nice people for sure. http://frontiertownmontana.com/index.htm

This token is listed by Rulau in the section of Pennsylvania Trade tokens. The token was produced by George B. Soley on the Mint's first steam coinage press, which he had acquired as scrap in 1875. Relatively common, extant pieces are available in high grade. It is listed as: PA-Ph 394. Sold at various late 19th century expositions and at the Philadelphia Mint as souvenirs.
My 14 year old son got this for me yesterday after going to the flea market with his cousins. He said he thought I'd like it because "it sounded cool". Gotta love kids. I'm keeping it forever lol.
Hi Razz, I love the reference on the doubloon to an old coin on Louisiana, the very small "Picayune".
