I managed to bid home this very beautiful dolphin series denarius earlier today at DNW.

The type is difficult to come by in this state of preservation, and it came with a decent hammer price, so I am very happy.

Great coin! There is a lot to like about your coin - centered, well struck, and a dolphin. One of my first few RR denarii was a dolphin purchased at a local coin shop. My wife liked the tiny fish to go with the tiny dog coin I bought earlier. I need to take a few pics. I think the coin is the lower left is my dolphin.

Nice coin. Sadly you would have paid a lot less a couple of years ago. :(

Some of the prices on coins I was watching were nuts, especially considering DNW's very high 24% buyer's fee. I also find it annoying that they don't publish the high pre-bid.

    Example of a nutsy hammer:
    Screen Shot 2022-04-13 at 12.20.54 PM.jpg
Decent coin, worn dies (esp. obverse), nice toning. Hammer: GBP 1500. With the buyer's fee thats USD 2430 (over 3000 CAD). :inpain::hilarious:

There are some rich twits about who unfortunately ruin it for ordinary folks.

Lovely 44/5. I really like the overdimensioned capes of the Dioscuri on the earliest types.

I threw in a few low bids and completely forgot about the sale until I saw your FB post, Michael. When I checked, I'd won two lots and been outbid on the rest - two of them by 1 increment and others by more - one lot finished at 5X my bid :D

I'm not going to tempt fate by posting the two I won as the last thing I posted in advance is stuck in some infinite US Postal System loop. It's been bouncing between "Out for Delivery" and "Forwarded" for 4 weeks now in California. I used the address of my company there as I was supposed to be there now - however, my trip has been delayed and it seems they are unable to deliver. A colleague in the office has contacted USPS to correct the address (I'd left out a "Suite 300" part of the address). They told him "Sure, we'll correct it and send it on", then calle dhim back the following day to say they couldn't, as the email had been forwarded. On the tracking, it's been forwarded 3 times, always returning to the same post office. I have been unable to use the "USPS Package Intercept", though the postage method should be eligible. When I fill in the contact form, it tells me that some of the details are invalid. Doe anybody know what the post office actually does in the U.S. with something they fail to deliver? - do they return it to the sender?

CNG have contacted the postal service, but that was nearly a week ago and it's still bouncing around. I will try to call them myself tomorrow - I only se ea 1-800 number, so not sure if that will work from here, but I'll try.

It's now being forwarded for the third time... I might add that my colleague doesn't know why it has been forwarded - the building the office is in has been sold and our parent company has moved out, apparently to Florida, but we're still in the building.

Sorry for the hijack - this is the current tracking history - if anyone knows who to pester by 'phone or email in the US Postal Service, leads gratefully accepted. If they send it back to CNG I'll go there myself on the way to or from California and get it :D

I actually won this in late January and paid on 1st February by wire transfer. It seems that the sender information was lots from the transfer so CNG didn't send it out for another 6 weeks (I did email them on 1st Feb to say I'd wired the money and they'd receive it shortly - it arrived on 2nd Feb).

That is an insanely long tracking list. I have a package that was sent to a buyer in the US that is doing similar things at the moment.

My Dolphin denarius is a bit miserable, but it fills a slot - from Iseum Coins in 2018:

I thought there were versions with dolphins facing in each direction, but that was the butting bulls denarius :D

My Cr. 430/1 is off-centre, but is an attractive coin for £116.08 including buyer's premium in 2013:

Great win! I was actually bidding on that coin also, but dropped out before the hammer price and I wasn't the immediate underbidder. That one is a great addition to your collection.

    Beautiful coin lucky you.
I once won a coin cabinet and coins at DNW and they delivered all the way to norwich free of charge so would never knock them.

I really like the various differing tones in that layout.
It makes the display aesthetically pleasing to the eye.
    Nice collection.
