The luster is not blazing like an '81-S but it's still pretty decent. I'll throw a video in when I post the reveal. I shot the coin to show off the color and the surfaces. Showing the luster causes some of the color to appear subdued. I can't wait to see what John thinks of it at CAC.
Guessing 64+ or *. It is pretty as pretty goes to be sure, but not a rainbow fan for my own tastes...love the gentle golden toning on the reverse.
Any other guesses? @Morgandude11, @Lehigh96 and anyone else, I will be revealing in a couple of hours.
Ok, it's that time. A lot of you nailed it! It's in a NGC MS-65 ★ holder. I'm honestly surprised it did not grade 66. But, I'm glad it didn't or it would have probably been out of my price range. So congrats to all of you who nailed the grade! I will be posting the rest of my PNNA pick ups tomorrow night. Thank you all for playing.
Gorgeous coin! I guessed correct, though I was split between 65 and 66. I could see it going 66. That's a stunning coin.
That has some amazing luster JT. The market for these has gone crazy in the past couple of years. 3 in 65+CAC have gone for over 3K. Amazing Morgan!
3k? I know people who would pay at least TWICE that for obverse toning like that. If that coin were put up for auction at a major auction house, I would bet on a bidding war. I strongly agree with the grade of 65*. However, the grade is almost irrelevant, given the monster like toning on the obverse. The money is in the toning, especially, with the star.
One of them went for $6500. But yeah, an amazing coin for a couple hundred. That's what you call Cherry Pickin.
I appreciate everyone's feedback. I was a bit nervous putting out the money that I did pay for it. I wish I had paid only a couple hundred. It was much closer to 1k, but it was south of 1k. Now I need to send it to CAC and get the green bean. With any luck it could get the gold bean and then the sky is the limit for pricing. LOL
I don’t think that is even necessary. Look up MS 65* toners on recent auctions, such as Great Collections. I would think your coin could bring HIGH four figures, possibly even 5, if a bidding war took place. I would say 6k would be a reasonable selling price as a baseline. i rest my case. Much less nice than yours, and a 64:
