PCGS gave it a straight grade many years ago.

I see what looks like a slight bit of rub so will have to go with AU58 Would have said "maybe" old cleaning but you said she graded clean :D

I'll guess 63. I want to say the first pics show what it looks like in hand.

I also see rubs and I agree Au. 58 and it is another MPD I dont think its the mpd 001 but seated coins on certain dates have numerous mpd varieties.

No it matches...its an mpd 1891 001 top 25 varieties listed for the seated series

Beautiful Quarter! Based on how I am reading the images, I would be guessing AU-55. It could just be the lighting.

I want to say 63, but in an old holder, going with AU58.

My first impression was 55, but I'm guessing they called it a 58

AU53, way too much wear and luster breakage on the obverse. Reverse is really nice though.

MS-61 and that would look great in any collection.

Hint, don't use the glamour shots to grade. They show the color really well but make it tough for grading.

I'm a little perplexed on this one. The coin almost has a full collar on the reverse and to a lesser degree on the obverse, generally an indication of very little wear. The eagle's feathers on the reverse appear to be too worn for a MS grade OR are a result of a somewhat weakly struck coin. The stars on the obverse and the hair are another indication of a weak strike. The various colors depicted in the photo don't help in assessing a grade either. I would grade it as AU-55 tops from the pictures, but I bet it grades beyond that.

Great reply. You brought up some important factors.

You may be correct but I can't see it in the images. That's all I have to work from. The coin is locked up at the bank. I'll try to bring it home and check. That would bring up the value a bit. Thanks.

Again on seated some dates had lots of mpd's the 1876 is a perfect example ..... I do believe that yours is the 001, but it may also have other mpds if examed in hand. Let me know thanks

Hard to tell if it is rub or a weak strike with the toning on top. I think AU55, but if it is a weak strike I could see it in a MS63 holder.

    MS 61. I don’t see wear. I see a weak strike.
