I never said they should take a loss. o_O

If a set costs them $10 to make and package and ship they can sell it for $25 without taking a loss. In fact they’d still make a HUGE profit.

What I’m saying is they shouldn’t be charging $83.50. That’s not simply refusing to take a loss. It’s greed.

It’s like the Mint charging $150 for a bullion American Silver Eagle. They make money charging only $2 over spot so criticizing them if they raised it to $150 isn’t asking them to stop making a profit. It’s simply asking not to fleece customers.

Total strawman argument. Products and prices of Mints across the world have absolutely nothing to do with the discussion we're having about the buying habits of current and former US Mint customers.

Stick to the topic and your opinions will garner more respect. Said in the same vain as your comment to @Gam3rBlake

There's no strawman at all other than the complaining. If you dont want to buy stuff from the mint fine dont no one cares. The mints pricing and products compared to major world mints is absolutely relevant to practices which quite frankly they've been about a decade behind on.

As I've said countless times before people just love to complain. If the mint makes something everyone can get and the price goes down people complain, if they do a limited issue where it have an aftermarket people complain if they miss out. Forums want products that are limited that they are assured to get otherwise the complaints start and even then probably would happen anyways

So what product do they sell for over 80 dollars that costs them 10? Are you just making up numbers?

Are you willing to put in orders of millions of dollars that have no returns? Thats how they make money on the bullion ASE with massive bulk orders of millions of dollars that cannot be returned or canceled

It's 2.35 per coin premium with a 25k ounce minimum per order if you can meet the multimillion dollar requirements to even order

Not sure if you even read the title of this thread. If no one cares then why was the exact title implying they care?

    Thread title:

Which was a valid question. Got hijacked by people hating everything as a badge of honor but is what it is.

It is actually possible to have intelligent conversations about products without just the whole I'll never buy from the mint again stuff. If thats the case just ignore the thread

You're joking with that response, right?

The OP specifically asked if anybody is buying anything from the Mint, and your interpretation of that query is only people who would answer yes should reply? Or on another level, anyone who would answer the question with a no response should do so with a single word answer, no, offering no qualifying statement supporting their answer?

My fault for expecting intelligent conversation about things.

I have been wondering this for awhile now. Why has the mint never had a problem with silver blanks for silver proof sets but they claim there is a shortage of blanks for ASEs? They have even created rarities of certain ASEs. Why hasn't the mint ever created a rarity for any proof set? Well except for the 2012 but that isn't really all that rare. I would really be willing to run the 12 o'clock wait game if the mint would announce a 25,000 limit on the next proof set or silver proof set.:greedy:

I got my 2 cents in earlier. I buy from the Mint coins that I like. If you really want to get your jollies, watch Rick, or Mike, or Chopper. It's hard to believe that people will pay the prices these TV shopping networks are selling them for. I like to watch their shows for the heck of it. Last night I was watching Ricks show and there was a fellow that looked kind of like a weasel offering a Bullion ASE T-1 for $169 and you could get 10 for about $1,200. I buy from the Mint because I won't pay a weasel the price they sell things for. There's another show, The Coin Vault, or something like that, that is on the air selling their junk that "You just have to buy this!" by Twiddle Dee and Twiddle Dum. If I'm going to throw my money away, I would rather buy from the Mint and not those coin shows.

I bought a roll of president dollars and they sent a silver proof set by mistake. Told me to keep it cuz I paid for it but shipped to a person at a different location

Hell no. You are different but not an exception. Your collection is not lacking a wide array of many many important coins. Just ask anyone and I bet we would all want your collection

Yeah if the prices weren’t so crazy I think most of us would have them. I would buy but I just can’t swing it. I take the bus to work and even my metro pass if tuff on me price wise.
