Hello. I'm looking to sell this 2006 No P No Logo Magnetic Penny. I pulled it while searching boxes of pennies. I went through 14 boxes...35,000 pennies and found 2 of this coin. This one is the nicer of the 2. I'm looking for opinions on whether I should have it professionally graded or sell it as raw/ungraded with pics. I'm interested to see your opinions. I opened the 2X2 just to take the pics. I took pics of front and back as well with a magnet. I use a soft refrigerator magnet when searching boxes. The refrigerator magnet will not scratch coins when searching. Thank you for any advice. cladhunter13
I believe that in 2002 the mint started producing cents that were 94% steel, thus they would naturally stick to a magnet. 2006 cents with no P are just as common as those with a P.
LOL! Thank you for the offer. EArlier this week I sold another for $100.00. It had a few issues with darkened fingerprints on the Obverse and Reverse. Otherwise there was still alot of luster to the coin. I might of been able to get more but was anxious to get my feet wet in the collecting market. I also learned a lesson about shipping costs via express post with signature required. I had to eat a little bit of the cost but, I will consider that a learning lesson.:eating: Just trying to decide if it will be worth the time and cost of getting the coin graded before selling. Not sure when to send a coin in for grading. Any advise is very helpful and appreciated. Thanks again. cladhunter13
The magnetic variety 2006 (P) seem to be few and far between. My 64th edition Charlton says $600CDN in MS63. IF I am reading the entry correctly you should get both graded.
Freezer...you are correct!!!! I love it when peeps answer like that.......refer to the I hate Canadian Coins thread.....rofl......Over 500.00 for a graded MS 65 lololol Yup love it!!!!!!! 2006 No p Mag` are worth a lot of money.....'merican or other wise
For the 2006 Canadian cents. Refer to Charlton Standard Catalogue CANADIAN COINS Volume one, Numismatic Isssues 2010. 64th Edition Page 62 paragraph 1 reads: "In 2006, for some reason, multi-ply plated steel planchettes (magnetic) found their way into the production line for striking 2006 copper plated zinc cents (non-magnetic). The obverse dies used in this line did not carry the "P" composition mark. Thus, the multi-ply plated steel planchettes were struck without the "P" composition mark. This variety is listed as 2006 (P), signifying multi-ply plated but no composition mark." Pricing can be seen online here: http://coinsandcanada.com/coins-prices.php?canadian_coins=1-cent-1965-2010 Have a great day.
That makes sense now. When I saw 2006 P listed I assumed this meant it had the "P" on the coin and that the 2006 sans P meant that it did not have a "P" mark. I also didn't see a variety listed, but that's what I get for relying solely on https://www.jandm.com/script/getitem.asp?CID=3&PID=81 website for all coins from north of the border.
Which grading service would authenticate a magnetic canadian off- composition coin? Just curious. ANACs maybe?
Thank you for the info. Anyone want to give there opinion on what they feel it would grade at? I know it is hard to grade from pictures alone. I'm just trying to get a feeling on what some of the community thinks from the pictures. Thank you again. cladhunter13
Hard to say with the obverse picture provided, can't tell what bruises are on the coin and what are on the mylar. Looking at the reverse I'd venture an MS63 for the coin. Maybe.
Thank you for your opinion. The lighting was not the greatest when taking the pics. I noticed there were a few shadows and glaring. Still working on getting a better lighting set-up for pictures. Thanks again, cladhunter13
