Hi - there are some great examples of Indian coins in this thread. It's an area I enjoy collecting a lot. I always enjoyed the challenge of identifying coins with "squiggly" writing on them - especially long before the internet which is kinda cheating...

I have noticed prices going up quite significantly in the past 10 years - particularly, but unsurprisingly, for quality material. Though not really Indian, Ga-den tanka's have increased 10 fold. I used to get them for £3 each - now they are pushing £30... But even basic 19th Century coppers are going for quite the price nowadays. I saw an uncirculated Travancore,Rama Varma VI 1/2 Chuckram go for over £1k recently which was astounding.

I've a modest collection built up - but probably too many to post here. If anyone is interested I have my collection on my own site that I designed myself to be how I like it (HTML1 but should still work on all platforms).

I'm an active contributor to ZENO so most of my coins are on there as reference coins anyway - but I like to be able to view them in a certain way. However something that might be of use is my Mughal mint identifier. Most places require a lot of clicking and searching but I've tried to bring them all together in one place so it's easier to just scan down the list - well - it works for me. Link below.

Many thanks! I have bookmarked all those links and just skimmed through the Mughal section. It seems I keep buying Mughal dams and rupees, rupees of all types, and anything from Kutch. I also am busy on zeno, use my real name on there rather than some handle.

a very sharp coin @coin_nut - here's my most recent coin from ancient India - the elephant and (apparently?) distorted head shape of the king were interesting to me...another interesting coin found in this CT post: A Remarkable 6th Century "Crown"

Thanks for the update. I appreciate your informing. Fortunately, I bought it for the symbolism. I did not pay much, and do not collect in this area. I still enjoy carrying it with me.

High here was 96 yesterday, 97 today, so it all balances out with a gentle upward trend

Yes/ I started work on Monday, it was +7 cel./ but most clients still had snow/ ice of properties. Last night we got 5cms snow/ still there/ hence I am at home not at work:(
I cannot stand temps over 25 cel. (96/97 F. ) would be awfull. I was trimming cedar hedges on Wed. temp was 15 cel. I worked shirtless to try to get early start on tan:)

25 Celsius is only 77 F. 97 F is 36 Celsius. But Humidity is only 7 %, which makes heat in Southern California quite tolerable.

To get back to the original topic, nice coin.

    A recent purchase:

    India Rupee 1950
Nickel, 27.9 mm, 11.7 gm (official weight), dot mintmark below "1950" for Bombay

This coin is encased in an NGC MS-63 holder or slab.

I was going to take it out of the holder but it looked so nice when I received it that I decided to leave it as it is.
