Just wanted to say thanks to this corner of the coin collecting world on Coin Talk.

Whether it is a common or a very rare coin, people are very kind and helpful here.

I have only 21 rather inexpensive coins in my ancients collection but when people need help with them, you are there in the true spirit of the hobby.

    Ancients collectors are top-notch!
I haven't met anyone who wasn't more than happy to help out and share their knowledge. It really makes this community great.

These are the most educated group of numismatists that I know... I only wish they would stop posting photos of coins I gotta have.

At our coin club we have what we call the "Ugly Coin Group". However, it is interesting to note that we (CoinTalk) seem to post the ones we like, ugly or not. I gave up collecting US Proofs a long time ago. Perfection is skin deep, ugly goes all the way through. That's what makes them fun. Regarding proof sets, I confess to having a few silver sets left in my safety deposit box along with some Canadian proof-like sets. Modern proofs really are beautiful numismatic items.

Back to ugly,"(What the heck is that?) starts me down the rabbit hole of discovery accompanied by the last movement of Beetoven's 9th Symphony that I still play on a reel to reel Deutsche Grammophon tape at 7.5ips. I have the complete set of all nine symphonies on that label all conducted by Von Karajon.

The tape recorder was purchased in The Nam just before the end of the war. I bought it from a good bud in 2017 as my old Voice of Music set, which I inherited from my dad quit running. Welcome to my rabbit hole tour, you are cordially invited to jump onto the tour, it certainly is worth the ride.
