I looked at coins i could not afford. I was haunted until purchase a few coins that i knew i didn't have money to spend... I KNOW I SHOULD NOT HAVE LOOKED AT THOSE COINS... Don't look/ dont touch rule applies here
Guilty. - Yes, very guilty. Forget about the touch and see method. About all I need sometimes is a vivid description. Sort of scary and yet exciting. Welcome. You are in good company - maybe not "good" as in pennywise all the time, but golden forsure - golden hearts from lots of nice ol farts!.
Considering that I never have any money to spend, that happens every time I pull up the coin forum. Oh, and I post on 4 on a daily or nearly daily basis. So...ack! I try not to go into the BST/Open sections. It's better for me that way. I CAN'T buy anything, no matter how much I want to.
Guilty as charged. Every time I visit the local shop I get to look at the special boxes they keep in the back. There is one that usually has the rare gold, rare high grade morgans, 1856 flying eagles, etc. There is only one or two I don't want to buy - the good thing is these are so expensive there is no way I can touch them. And yes there are a ton of forums for coins - lincoln cent resource, coin chat(run by some that are still members here) and coinzip. A little searching and you can find them all. This one is the most active.
The really cool coins I sometimes get to see here are so far beyond my budget that it doesn't affect my collecting at all. However, it's easy to get jaded from all the sensory overload. I'm not complaining, mind you.
This happens to me with every Heritage Signature Sale. I believe the prices realized of my tracked items at the Long Beach Sale was over $100,000. Fortunately, I didn't win any of them.
But, isn't it wonderful to just look. I have gone years between without buying not one dime, penny or silver dollar. Yet, I always took out some time to look a little. Glad that you are among the CT community.
Exactly. We encourage you to track the coins you like and can never afford! Occasionally they ask me to help describe some of those very coins, which can mean staring at them under a loupe for a good period of time if I'm trying to attribute or confirm a variety or match a coin to old plates. I also proofread every Heritage coin catalog, and that means looking at lots of pretty pictures.
I like to believe for me that very few coins fall into the bolded category. The problem is really choosing which coin to bid on. I find that when I can narrow the selection down to one coin, I usually win the lot due to a strong bid.
Buyer's remorse? Better get used to it you're hooked! Now wait. In 5 years you can sell for profit. Believe that and you can buy more coins this weekend. Seriously, the best purchases are not impulse buying.
If this were a guilty/not guilty poll, I would predict guilty would win by a landslide (or at least by a 4 cud mudslide). Anyway, guilty!
This happens plenty to me now a days too. But when I find a new job that will change...er maybe not there are such great things out there to get. I dont know if I'll ever not feel that way.
That is surely the truth! Thank you Sunflower I post on here, the Collector's Universe forum, CoinsAreFun, CoinSpace, The World Coin Gallery Yahoogroup, and occasionally I will make a post on FORVM Ancient. I also have memberships in two others but don't really contribute much. I truly love being on all of them, there is so much about this hobby I have yet to learn (I started in only 2008-22 and a half wasted years!) and each forum has different people, which means different knowledge bases, which means different things to learn. This was the second forum I joined for numismatics, although I have been on literally hundreds of other forums since 2000. I still find it amazing that somebody like me, who knew pretty much nothing coming in, and can't afford to build a really nice collection like some people on here, have been welcomed with open arms
yes and they're a whole lot harder to get rid of than purchasing.I put them on a credit card and so what else is new?Excepts bills, bills and more bills. All that was on my mind when I bought, was resell.I guess the money goes before the mind. It's almost funny, except you never know,do you?
I did that 2 times today so I guess I would have to say guilty. It seems recently, every extra second at work I pend looking at coins online or reading about them in books. I tell you, when you get bit by the coin bug, it bites hard and there is no coming back from it. Btw, it hurts so good.
Well guess i am just going to have to go down with this sinking ship...Guilty. Yeah I have spent when i shouldn't have, but as so many of you have stated, It felt so darn good Finanace, you mentioned the coin bug, it has bitten me twice. this is my second time around. last year I was having some difficult times, and sadly sold off most of my collection. Did not get any where near what I expected to. Oh well. It took a year to come back, and yeah, not much on my money tree out back, but this forum and one that I run some how pulled me back. Now I am buying coins, sort of, roll searching. However still in the hobby, even if barely on the playing field. Oh yeah and i may have an ANA membership:thumb: Regards, Stan
