So, no one collects BU rolls here?

Discussion in 'Coin Roll Hunting' started by MeowtheKitty, Mar 15, 2022.

  1. I have 15 or so BU Roosevelt silver rolls. Some are sealed others I have looked at; they range Ch to Superb Gem imo.

I had quite a few wheat penny rolls but could not even get Grey for them. They came via trade. Some inspected had small carbon pepper like spots on them. Some were sent to a CA auctioneer whom sent them back to me ( no real value). They were stolen; empty box except for the paperwork. All in my early mistake ridden times.

I used to, years ago, but I got low on cash once and ended up taking about $200 in rolls to the bank to get through a bad month. I never really got back into rolls after that, but I do still have a few stuck away in an old box. They've been there since the 80s. Maybe I should pull them out and remind myself what's in there?

I sure don't want any rolls of Zincolns. I do habe about 35 rolls of assorted wheaties in average circulation condition. (mostly to help younger start-ups with coin collecting)

That's what I collect as well. About 90% of my total collection are BU silver rolls. Mostly Washingtons and halves.

Going through those "mistake ridden times" are not pleasant, that's for sure. Been there myself!

Don't want to stray too far from the subject-matter/thread, but to me there are no "Maya..." or other similar, so-called qtrs or qtr rolls in this new, "womens series" etc, etc...rather, only Washington quarters and Washington quarter rolls with so & so on their reverse. Again, just me, and no disrespect intended...more so of respect (waning and belittled by too many these days/times) for the Father of Our Country.

Cats enjoy shiny objects that roll (and jingle a bit). Sounds about right!!

    I do.
I have many BU rolls too.
I have many genuine vintage bank rolls including some BU vintage rolls.
But ultimately...my intention is to search my rolls.

I just sent out my first large grading order(s) to PCGS in many years and it includes a few beautiful MS specimens I pulled out of those BU rolls!

I'll certainly post the results of my orders but it's going to take a few months total. One of my orders is express so I hope to have that one back within a month. The orders were submitted last Saturday at the PCGS table at the National Money Show in Colorado Springs.

I not only collect rolls, I collect boxes of some item IMG_5823.JPG s - like all the 2009 Lincolns from both mints, Canada's 2012 pennies (their last penny mintage year), 1955S Lincolns and on and on.

We have several pre 1982 BU rolls but are no longer interested simply because of the zincoln era. We are kind of old fashion about it.

I have ordered half-dollar rolls boxes. Usually two at a time and go through them. Cherry-pick them. Then later buy stuff at stores with them, so as not to get them back later in rolls if I would turn in. Once I received many 90%/40% silver ones, as well as damaged Proofs. I just enjoy buying stuff with them and the reactions. I once bought $40/50 of gas at a filling station and the cashier did not know what they were. I got them to call the owner/Mgr. He to the cashier to accept them.

I'm a little bent that the Mint doesn't sell just a roll of S mint guarters...I just don't want any P and D circulation strikes!

Meow usually does open a few of the batch to see what is there. The sad thing is that Meow only gets D mints where Meow lives. A much larger percentage of errors come from the P mint.

Yeah but you save like 10 of each. I’m liking the new Washington design with a very care free reverse

Meow usually saves as much Meow can get. Usually anywhere from 20-90 rolls. per issue. Eventually as each one becomes unobtainable at the bank, Meow feels Meow should of tried to get more of them.

I enjoy collecting BU rolls. I mainly collect rolls from the 60's and 70's, but have a select few from later years. I pay pretty close attention to the condition of the rolls when I do come across them, as I prefer they actually be OBW as opposed to opened and rerolled. It's not easy these days to find those but they show up from time to time (I have had the best luck at my LCS). I have found some nice doubled dies, die clashes, clips, RPM's, etc., from certain rolls I have decided to open, which is always a nice surprise because of their condition.

Yes, Meow likes only OBW BU rolls too. When it comes to errors, Meow has not had the greatest of luck. Meow has found a small pawful of Strike through string, Tall grass quarters. And one MBR quarter with a missing face due to debris. And a long time ago Meow bought rolls of Mount rushmore quarters that had a small percentage of Jefferson booger die chips. Meow opens all Heads/Heads rolls and keeps most Tail/Tail ones. And certainly keeps all Heads/Tails ones unless the are damaged in some way. So Meow does get to look and see what variations may be found in a certain batch. But ends up keeping a large percentage of them intact, puts them in tin cans; And labels them. It can be an expensive way to collect quarters, as Meow sometimes keeps $500 or more of a the new issues. But it makes Meow purr, so what can a Cat do?
