PCGS Population Report on Details Coins & Survival Estimates

Two questions for the CT forum.

    1) Any reason by PCGS does not list a population report on Details and Genuine Coins? They have the data. I am curious from a historical numismatic perspective. I am particular interested in seeing these numbers for Early US coins (flowing hair, liberty head and draped bust coinage). NGC has a details census. why not PCGS?

    2) On the PCGS Survival Estimates. I read one PCGS article describing the estimates as being all coins, graded and ungraded. Yet another suggested it might pertain to only those considered gradable. Do you happen to know? Might it include, truly all, such a holed coins and all details coins?

    Thanks!

Pardon my naiveté, but can you elaborate more? Not an innocent exercise?

Just that some of these coins that were body bagged and detailed are now in strait grade holders. I may have just read more into your question last night, and was being a smart aleck.

But that's NOT the same thing as the Population Census, right ?

I'm wondering about how you make an adjustment in high-grades for the double-counting that you would get if you just added the PCGS and NGC Pop numbers.

Correct. Population census is just what has been submitted to them

Guesstimates. It really depends what it is. If its an ultra modern you just add them together. If you're talking about top pops on expensive coins you can pretty much assume a good portion of the NGC ones have been crossed over to PCGS or at least the ones that would. If NGC is a pop 1/0 at the highest grade known its probably a PCGS one that upgraded. Things like that I put very little weight into the NGC numbers
