I just got my P&D MS67 set graded by Anacs in the mail today. They are first day of issue coins.

The Denver coin had a D on it on the Lincoln side but the Philadelphia coin did not have a P on the Lincoln side.

Is this a mistake or is this common?

    Thanks.

Its no problem at all. We all have to start somewhere. This is a good place to learn.

And this would indeed be a great thread to ask.....when did the "P" mint mark first appear on a US coin? :)

Well, P mint marks were put on war nickels from '42 to '45 then discontinued untill 1980 when all coins minted at philly had the p mint mark except the cent. Im pretty sure the p was not used before that

Don't forget the 1979 P SBA's. And there were some non-US coins minted in Phiadelphia that had P mintmarks before the war nickels if I remember correctly.

The original question was just US coins. But yes, the 1979 SBA's did in fact have a P mint mark on them. Thank you for correcting me

No correction required.....the question was when did a "P" mint mark first appear on a US coin.

You are correct green18. U did ask when the P mint mark "first" appeared on US coins, but further along in my answer I stated that the P mint mark did not appear back on US coins untill 1980 when actually it appeared on the 1979 SBA dollar. That is where I needed to be corrected.
