I purchased a 100 count bag of new 2009 Mariana Quarters. They were all satin. Is this "standard" with these now?

No since Satin Finish coins are for the Mint Sets.

I can not tell if there the SF.
But the mixing of dies for FS & Buss strike is one of the rezone that that SF mints are done

Mixing and rezone? Meaning they are intentionally being made for circulation? I dont understand about the mixing and rezone part please.

for the satin finish coin in the mints set 2005-2009 they sand blasted the dies to get that type finish.
business strikes/circulation they just engrave the die and no special surface is added I hope that clear-up things

***but SP die and the normal die were get mix together on the production area

that is 1 of the rezones the SF mint sets were stopped

The US Mint has placed 100 Satin coins in a bag. It's that simple. They used coins from broken-up Mint Sets, or extra coins made for Mint Sets. That continues to be the only source of the satin finish coins.

That's the first I heard of it but I guess it's possible of course. Do you know this from the fact the "are" such finished coins in those bags or form a source if written information, or both?

Yes... I purchased 2 (100 count) bags directly from the mint and both bags contained all satin finished coins. These bags were not from a 3rd party.

I'm still fairly lost as to, if this situation is common or rare? The reason I am asking is to determine what I should do with these coins as I am a noivce.

Just received my 2009 "D" Mariana quarters, 100 count bag and they are regular business strike. . . no satin finish.

    2 - 100 count Satin Finish 2009 P Northern Mariana Island Quarters
    2 - 100 count Business strike 2009 D Northern Mariana Island Quarters

my question is this? If you bought them in a bag and paid a premium for them, what was your original intention for them?

as an aside the Mint has been placing satin coins in many of their special packages. i.e. - the 2007 dollar coins set with the sac, the presidents and the silver eagle. All coins were satin. My point being that the Mint set is not the only place to get satin finish coins

now that's odd! but they could be using whatever they have available without regard as to finish

Since you've opened the bags, there is no extra value at all over and above the coins being satin finish if in fact they are. My suggestion is to pick two of the best and submit them for grading and then put the rest in tubes.

I doubt you'll receive anything extra in premium should you try to resell these. In other words, nothing really earth shattering here, simply unusual and possibly questionable since you are a self admitted novice.

truer words were never spoken. You have destroyed any potential value these coins had in the bag by opening it.

If you doubt there is any extra premium (and I agree) then why on earth waste $50 having them graded?

I said "Pick two of the best".

I understood what you said. Given your premise, why would someone want to spend the money (about $50 for two coins) to have them graded? Especially when, by your own admission, they will likely never sell for a premium. Why?

For something to have value, it has to be seen first. So how can you say something has lost value if it's never been valued -first- in the first place.
IE. I will not buy a bag of 'something' if the seller says,"This bag 'MAY' have something in it." (But actually dosen't know whats in it.)...So there is actually no value until it's opened. IMO ...the 'VALUE' comes into play when the bag is opened.
If it is still believed unopened bags of 'not knowing what it is' are more valuable, then I have many unopened bags for sell ...'not knowing what it is' for $500 a peice.

Well I purchased the 2 bags, one for my brother and one for myself to "error search", fun, goofy stuff like that. While at work he noticed the difference and while at my house I noticed the difference  . But even tho, gotta lotta satin quarters and may just slab-um and save-um. Who knows :computer:

You must not understand the market at all - we, I think were talking about the tiny mint sewn bags of an item that "are ruined value if opened first then marketed as a the bag once was - that is common knowledge not someones opinion.
They, (modern tiny $25 face value bags) have little value to begin with - their only value is if un-opened, after that we pour them out, find a good $1 or $2 coin, search them quickly and get rid of them, there nothing as compared to truly rare collector type coins, just mint fodder after that.
I'm sorry but I have hauled thousands like this to the bank at face value - even if satin finish no body cares - you can't give the things away for the most part they are a quarter. Come on you'all ???
